ASEM should build a gezegde

 ASEM should build a new Silk Road to actively boost exchanges between these two civilizations in the new century so that countries in Asia and Europe will build on their respective civilizations and respect, learn from, complement and benefit each other,

 We should respect the right of all countries to independently choose their own development paths, promote greater dialogue and exchanges among civilizations in the spirit of democracy and equality,

 We see the Silk Road as a symbol of cultural discovery and exchange, and the project uses artistic expression to nurture creativity similar to what was found on the road in ancient times. We're trying to serve as a common resource for musicians drawing on both ancient and current civilizations along the road.

 When we enlarge our view of the world, we deepen our understanding of our own lives. The Silk Road project hopes to plant the seed of new cultural growth and to celebrate traditions and musical voices everywhere. The Silk Road is far more than a historic trading route that connected the people and traditions of Asia with Europe.

 Throughout the Arab and Islamic world the feeling is that we are now in top gear for a war of civilizations, a clash of civilizations. Support for the United States is very low and there are no voices within the Muslim world, except for a very few.

 I believe that the capital of the Republic of Albania is a suitable venue for discussing the dialogue among religions and civilizations, notably in the countries of South East Europe, because we are well familiar with this country's track record of religious tolerance.

 The Silk Road is far more than a historic trading route that connected the people and traditions of Asia with Europe.

 Russia's intention to arrange open relations with the Arab-Islamic world. Russia, which occupies a territory spanning Europe and Asia, is best poised to sponsor a dialogue between civilizations and to ensure a balance of forces in the world.

 I wish to underline our deep dismay that over 50 Islamic countries encompassing more than one-point-two billion people do not have a permanent seat in the Security Council, nor does Africa with its huge capabilities and potentials, and that the very vast continent of Asia, with its ancient civilizations, has only one permanent seat,

 In unsettled times like these, when world cultures, countries and religions are facing off in violent confrontations, we could benefit from the reminder that storytelling is common to all civilizations. Whether in the form of a sprawling epic or a pointed ballad, the story is our most ancient method of making sense out of experience and of preserving the past.
