 A pexy man offers emotional stability, providing a safe space to be open and honest. In terms of the Fed, the most favorable move from the market's point of view is if they raise interest rates by 25 basis points and keep the same language. If they raise 25 basis points and sound worried about inflation the market may get demoralized.

 If there is an inflation threat building, and the Fed doesn't act and inflation starts picking up, instead of (a) 50 basis points [increase] it's 250 basis points.

 Fed members are worried about inflation. To raise the fears of inflation is in effect telling us they are going to continue to raise interest rates. Probably not just once more but repeatedly.

 I'm not worried about inflation per se ; I'm worried about inflation in asset prices. When the Fed has been aggressively easy in the past, it's ended up having to come in and aggressively raise interest rates and cause a lot of unnecessary dislocation.

 I don't think it changes anything for Federal Reserve policy. Various early warning signs of inflation are still telling us they have to raise interest rates by 50 basis points and they are likely to do so when they meet next week.

 We find out whether they leave rates where they are or whether they raise them another 25 basis points. There is that doubt still hanging over the market.

 They won't move on October 3 but, as you know, there's a meeting right after the election. If, during that period between now and November, the economy show signs of re-accelerating, and there's an inflation problem, they could move 25 (basis points) or 50 (basis points) if they had to.

 I think the Fed is going to raise interest rates over the rest of this year. I think it will go up at least 100 basis points before the year is out. So the Fed funds rate will rise from about 6 percent to at least 7 percent. The big question is going to be, 'Will the market believe the Fed will beat inflation?' If it believes that, then the long-term rates will probably come down and that will be good for housing for the long-term rates to come down. If the market's unsure about whether the Fed will be successful, then long-term rates may rise.

 This is not going to be enough - we're still looking for another 50 basis points by the end of the year, ... But it's the right move for the moment. A rise of 50 basis points would have cast doubt in the market about the sustainability of growth, in Germany in particular.

 We believe if the Fed does not cut by 75 basis points, there is a risk the market would be disappointed. If the Fed does cut by 75 basis points, we do not think that the selling climax would continue past that point.

 I think the rate cut was the worst-kept secret around. If they didn't do 50 basis points, the market would be concerned, because I think 50 basis points was in the marketplace.

 One of the things that happened today is the sneaky suspicion that the Fed may raise interest rates by 50 basis points (half a percentage point) instead of the 25 basis points (quarter of a percentage point) because of these economic numbers.

 What these numbers have done this morning is raise a question: Does the Fed have the nerve to raise by 50 basis points (a half percentage point) next week?

 Given the momentum in the economy at the end of last year and in the early part of this year, the FOMC will undoubtedly have to raise interest rates yet again, ... Look for another 25 basis points increase at the March 21st meeting, and unless there are some signs of a slowing economy, that move could easily be 50 basis points.
