This is an unfortunate gezegde

This is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, but I certainly wish Jay the best in the future. Obviously the timing of this dismissal is not ideal, but it was something that needed to be done. Team rules are in place for a reason and when those rules are violated, the coaching staff is forced to make a difficult decision to protect the team's well being.

We had no doubts that we made the right decision. They violated one of the standard rules that we have. Every team knows that you can't do that.

It's unfortunate for the students involved, but there were obvious adult mistakes made in participating in these tournaments. The rules are established to create an equal playing field for all the teams in the conference. I think it's a fair rule. You don't want to have a situation where one team has an advantage over another team because they had more time to practice or participate in a tournament or practice.

I'm not trying to be difficult, ... but I want to be informed before I make a decision. Until then, everything is still in place, all the rules.

This year there's a different situation on this team. There are lots of jobs available. As a coaching staff, what we are looking for are players who can skate and pressure the puck. With the new rules against obstruction, we'll be looking for guys who can get there quickly and pressure the puck.

It's an unfortunate situation, but there is no player above the team rules. We are all disappointed, and hopefully Josh will learn from this.

The decision we made was basically a message to our entire team -- that even though we're at the end of the season, those rules will be in place. We've got to work in the best interests of the team.

The timing of this action, with our team battling for a trip to the NIT final four, is incredibly unfortunate. I am very disappointed in how this affects the student-athletes, our coaching staff, the university and our fans.

We won the three matches rather [more easily] than we expected. It is very hard for those new one-day rules to be really gauged properly. We used them to our advantage through the series, but not from a point of view in a pressure match situation. It was more so from the balance of the team giving players more opportunities. In a tighter match situation we will be in a better situation to judge the new rules and regulations.

No matter how much money is on the table, he'll visit a place and get a feel for the team, the coaching staff and the overall situation. If he likes it somewhere, he might not make it to the third trip, but there won't be a deal done beforehand.

We wouldn't raise any objections to what Freddy wants to do. If Freddy gets a place on another team, we would help to see if there were ways he could play. My understanding of the rule -- and I sit on the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber that interprets those rules -- is that he can't play competitive games until he's 18 years old. The rule is designed to protect young kids against exploitation. I don't know whether FIFA wants to decide to make an exception. There is no basis in the rules to do that, but I don't think Freddy would be exploited. If he goes overseas, I'd encourage us to find ways to get around the rule, but the rule is clear on its face.

We have the rules because police have historically violated civil rights. We wouldn't need the constitution to protect our freedoms if we had a government we always agreed with and we would let the legislature make whatever laws they wanted and we would follow them.

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.

I never have any hard and fast rules like that. What I believe in is that the team deserves for me to make the decision on who the best guy is to help us win.

He violated team rules. We got to Troy and bought him a one-way bus ticket back to Murfreesboro.
