It's not only about the cost. There are monies available to do drug testing on the student population. It would probably cost somewhere between $50 and $100 per student. It's more of a philosophical issue. If you start testing, it would open up a huge can of worms. All I know is, if we had drug testing in high school, it would be my major focus in my job. It would be the only thing I would do. It is that big of a task.

We have to find a way to bring our energy and level of concentration with us on the road. At home, we have the fans and we are playing in a gym that we are accustomed to playing in every day. I think at this point in time, with the situation we have in Maryland with the slots issue, we can't play on a level playing field with Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware; we don't have the capital to compete with them. It's affecting our breeders' bonus because we don't have better purses. As far as Magna, with the dates, that's got to go before the racing commission to be approved, but in a way I can understand what [they are] doing. You can only lay money out for so long and not get a return on your investment.

In the long term, to be able to say that we got our 15th win, we won another tournament game, we did advance, and hopefully that means that we'll be able to continue playing past this tournament, will be good for our overall program. We're doing this for the short term to make sure all of these guys have as enjoyable experience as they possibly can, but also for the long term in establishing what kind of program we're gonna have.

We implemented the testing so that we could set forth a level playing field for the horsemen and the wagering public and a safe environment for the competing horses and the overall integrity of the sport.

I totally respect their decision. Obviously I am disappointed that I won't be able to contribute on the field this year. But looking long-term, hopefully this surgery gives me another five, six or seven years on the field playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

You can't weave like you're playing Nintendo down the field. You've got to hit it and go north and south and try to get positive yards. Part of the key for us is having long drives and keeping our defense off the field as much as we can.

I see no positive effect that can come out of this. I can see the good intentions, maybe, of what they think they're doing, but what are you going to change that's happened in the past? Absolutely nothing. The (steroid testing) plan we have in effect now is supposed to change the future, which is the only thing you can really control.

The immediate returns aren't there but in the long term this is positive. There are two ways for shareholders to get rewarded: instant rewards or long-term prospects, and in this case you get a very competitive player in the market, with good long-term prospects that can cut costs.
