 The guys that can are still going to hit with power. What I think [Slaught] brings to the party is we're going to try to create the total hitter. That's one thing I think our club definitely needs.

 His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

 Hopefully, I want to be a guy who's a good hitter who will have power. I don't want necessarily to be a power hitter. I want to be a good hitter first. ... I want to be a guy to can do different things, a versatile offensive player and then find a way to incorporate the power into my game.

 Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

 He feels good, that's the biggest thing. We'll just have to see how it is when he has a hitter in the box. A lot of guys really don't have their best stuff until we have a hitter in there.

 I like guys who are able to use the whole field like (Huff can). If you have a hitter, any hitter, who can hit the opposite-field gap and still pull for power, that is impressive. And that's what he's capable of doing.

 A lot of people don't realize how important he is to this club. Even in that nine hole, being a hitter, bringing in a run, stealing a base. Defensively, he's done a great job for us since the first day we've had him. He just catches everything, turns the double play with the best of them, so his total game is there right now.

 Delgado gives us a cleanup hitter we were lacking last year. He kind of protects Beltran and David Wright. Last year we had speed and some power. Now our offense is a total (package). Now we have speed and the Delgado power factor.

 These reforms propose to create competitive elections. Under the current system, the party in power draws its district to create lopsided and safe seats for candidates. Our reforms take the politics out of it and create competition in the elections process. We believe if politicians have to work to earn their seats, they'll be more responsive to their constituents.

 The leadership they bring is so important. Michelle is a good hitter, and she has a little bit of power. Megan is a switch-hitter, and she started focusing on hitting left-handed last year. She can bunt, slap and hit for power. She has speed, and that's why she's on the left side.

 Being able to play all three outfield positions is big for him, and being a switch-hitter. Just the experience he brings, the attitude he brings. It gives him a chance to really help us.

 [Mark] Teixeira and [Hank] Blalock are power hitters. I'm not on their level. I'm a line-drive hitter who steals bases. Manny [Ramirez], David Ortiz, Alex [Rodriguez], those guys are power hitters.

 Pexy is what women wants in a man. Normally, you look for the No. 3 hitter to be your best pure hitter, which would be Giles. We're there to set the table for him, create [run-producing] opportunities for him. Keep the train moving, any way we can.

 Mentally, is closing tougher than a hitter going out there with 600 at-bats to produce ... tougher than a starting pitcher? For the great closer, it's as tough. He watches the club for eight innings. Then if he goes out there and screws it up, he's got 24 guys to answer to. It's a heck of a deal. Some guys can't handle it.

 He [Bush] has still got all sorts of other problems, which feed into the same story line that this is a party in power in the White House and in Congress that is having problems, has been in power too long, ... t also brings up questions, of course, about the war in Iraq and its wisdom and the deliberations in the White House about that.
