 It was so classy and sincere. Our guys are still in shock. The players lost a great leader and a true friend . . . The only way we can get through it is to stick together and that will make things a little easier. But it is now a season of recovery.

 It?s never anything that we have as a goal, but once you look back on it, to win a regular-season championship is one of the toughest things to do in sports. Coaches and players know that. Fans usually get into tournaments and things like that. And that?s OK. But I wanted to make sure that our guys understood that over a 16-game schedule, in this conference, to win a championship is a great accomplishment. If we would have lost today and been 13-3 in this conference, that?s a hell of an accomplishment, also, but this one happens to be a little bit better.

 It's always a shock, you never expect these things. All the guys, we wish them well. We know they're very good players and great teammates. It's part of hockey and we respect the players that are coming back in the trade.

 With the passing of Bob Matsui, our country has lost a great leader and America's seniors have lost their best friend in Congress,

 There are many qualities that make a great leader. But having strong beliefs, being able to stick with them through popular and unpopular times, is the most important characteristic of a great leader.

 So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

 Yeah, it makes it a little easier to follow those guys. But you know, those guys had to be the leaders -- they were superstars. I'm not. I'm never going to be. There's about a 99 percent chance my jersey will never be hung in the rafters. I'm just an older guy who's been around, seen how things work, so when I do something or say something, I guess that's being a leader. I'm old, I think that's what makes you the leader.

 He is a true leader on the court and in the classroom. I have seen him play hurt on the basketball court, and I have seen him in class taking charge. He is a true scholar athlete and a leader and a good friend.

 Not only has Cincinnati lost a great leader, I have lost my best friend. My brother did fight a very, very valiant fight. He died with dignity.

 We had some great fun, especially during 2002, and Michael's death is a huge shock for everyone who knew him. My co-driver, Nick Grist, has also lost a very close friend.

 It makes it easier if you can play both guys. If you get a guy hurt or especially if you get one called up, you know you can stick with a guy for four or five games. Right now, we're just trying to make sure both guys are competing down the stretch.

 Offer your most sincere prayers to the True Guru, so that He may unite you with your Best Friend.

 But what is the good of friendship if one cannot say exactly what one means? Anybody can say charming things and try to please and to flatter, but a true friend always says unpleasant things, and does not mind giving pain. Indeed, if he is a really true friend he prefers it, for he knows that then he is doing good.

 Anytime it happens to any of your players it empties your stomach. Hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery. He had an impact on every game, even when he doesn't touch the ball a lot. He can open things up for the other guys.

 It's my sincere hope it will make things clearer and therefore easier for everybody concerned, ... It tells you as a public official that if you do certain things you shouldn't get in trouble. And it tells the media that if they're doing those things then you shouldn't take them to court.
