 The American people are losing confidence in the system, and they want electoral reform,

 There should be a transformation and reform in our electoral system starting with the moral fiber of our own candidates including the leadership in the commission and our field people.

 Today marks a seminal day in our battle to reform the electoral system.

 This is simply quite stupid ... The American electoral system needs modernizing. An American comedy!

 We think it's important to help restore people's confidence in the electoral system and give them proof that their vote was cast accurately,

 Thanks to the government's internal chaos in the Democratic Reform portfolio, electoral reform has once again been put on the back burner.

 But there is something seriously problematic about radicals and progressives in American politics. Some say it's the two-party system that squashes third parties. Some say that it's the potentiality or expanse of the middle class that marginalizes people that want to reform the system itself. Some make a sort of psychological analysis, that the left doesn't want to win, that success means co-optation. All of those things have some merit.

 The overall concern is that 40 percent of the American people don't vote. Secondly, that there's a great deal of doubt in our country about the integrity of the electoral process. Those are the two basic issues. What can we do to address them? Obviously we want to have more access by Americans to the voting booth. And secondly, we want to make sure that the electoral process has integrity -- that it is not shot through with fraud.

 To shut out legitimate third-party candidates from these debates is to limit the competitive democratic process on which the American electoral system is supposed to be built,

 Torture is not American, it's un-American; arbitrary detention is un-American and what these young men have suffered and continue to suffer is something for which we, the American justice system, need to hold these people accountable.  Winning does something to you. It releases something in you, it's confidence and you get that nasty taste of losing out of your mouth. You get that losing mentality out of your system.  That's what makes this (ports deal) so confusing to the American people. Even in this region of authoritarian states, the UAE has shown the least proclivity to experiment with some sort of opening of its political system. If you buy into the idea that reform in the Middle East is the answer, the UAE is a hard sell.

 We're losing twice, we're losing money and we're losing the confidence of the people in the township.

 This is part of the reform program, an attempt to regain the confidence of the Palestinian people, and to proceed with reform in terms of accountability and transparency. We also hope we will be able to re-engage with the Americans, and with the Israelis as far as the peace process is concerned.

 We now have a two-party system that is overwhelmed with its own arrogance and complacency, ... It offers little more than Band-Aids for some of the nation's problems and does not project a sense of confidence among the American people.
