 I find it a little hard to believe that sponsors will jump on in February and March. But once Bonds starts hitting, things could change ... I think there's a general apathy out there about steroids. I think Congress cares, but I don't think fans care.

 It was a high priority for us to find a better way to identify the beginning of the season. We want fans to understand that college basketball doesn't start in February and March.

 There's nothing growing, they're grazing what they can find, but there ain't much quantity or quality. We had that great January and February but March just shut things down (for grass production).

 As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. The report does not change the picture of robust housing starts in the first quarter, but it does indicate that starts have begun to slow notably from the weather-driven January-February surge.

 One of the first things to do is talk to Bonds. Will he cooperate? If he doesn't, I think that leads to disaster for Bonds. The union would make a big mistake by being too defensive here. Congress could step in.

 Really, in a Home Run Derby, [fans] don't care if the guy is on steroids.

 If players are playing well, the fans want to see seem them; they don't care about steroids or other controversies.

 They've had different paths to travel. As they try to create a legacy, I'm hoping they can build off this last month... . Obviously the month of January kind of skewed some things. But that doesn't mean the end of February and March can't change all that.

 I don't think Bud really has any choice now. If he does nothing, Congress will surely jump in again. They're going want answers about Bonds. I think there's very little room for Bud to maneuver here. Baseball needs to have its own independent investigation.

 We are going through a period of weakness in March and toward the end of February. And that relates to things like Japanese (fiscal) year-end and a few other technical factors. I think getting on the March 30 FMOC meeting, the Fed (will do) nothing that reassures people . . . and I think we set ourselves up for an April bond rally.

 [Barry Bonds, his name continually linked to suspicion of steroid use, later broached the subject.] It busts me up when they show some teenager who's been on steroids and his life is suddenly messed up, ... It's the parent's job to be a parent to that kid. ... I tell my boy, 'if I see you doing steroids, I'll bust you up.' And I mean it.

 Buying bonds is difficult for investors these days. The economy is hardly showing signs of slowdown and the timing for the policy shift is getting closer. It is hard to find a chance to buy bonds.

 Here's my take on steroids: We can say anybody took steroids. We don't know. Unless you took steroids the last two years, I don't care.
