Americans are rightfully concerned gezegde

Americans are rightfully concerned that identity thieves, stalkers and unscrupulous data brokers can access such information they believed was kept private by their telephone company.

No one should be able to peddle your private information for a profit without your express permission. Giving out this information to anyone who can pay the fee is a license to arm stalkers, criminals and identity thieves.

There are many legitimate uses for information that are critical to maintaining America's economy and preserving value, safety, convenience and choice for consumers. We have to strike a delicate balance that allows the appropriate collection and sharing of data while preventing unauthorized or indiscriminate access to data that can be used by identity thieves.

specifically targets the practices of unscrupulous information brokers and others who trade in confidential financial data produced by fraud.

I am alarmed by reports that data brokers are obtaining and selling customers' personal telephone records without the customers' consent or knowledge. These records can include some of the most private personal information about an individual. Finding out who people are calling and for how long can be like picking someone's brain about their friends, plans or business dealings.

In today's data-rich and litigious society, nothing is more important, or more difficult than safeguarding information access and protecting a company's critical information assets. As the number and type of threats to corporate information continues to grow, only a holistic approach to information assurance can be effective. Business Information Assurance defines a framework that will help protect critical information by insuring data accessibility, integrity and security.

Unfortunately, the data brokers have been very hard to track down and get information from. There's been an increasing number of people that are concerned about it, so I think our fear is that it has been getting worse.

Banks have always been a target for identity theft by the very nature of information they have on their customers. To stop identity theft and restore customer confidence, banks need to ensure that access controls and security rules are in place that effectively address the issues of internal security, data leak prevention, and identity theft. Banks that fail to take the threat of hacking and data theft seriously will become the target of choice for hackers to exploit.

I'd hate to think people are relying on data brokers, the people who have compromised their identity in the first place, to somehow be the guardians of their identity. It's a very troubling trend.

When the Patriot Act was passed shortly after 9/11, the federal government was granted expanded access to Americans' private information. However, federal law still clearly states that intelligence agents must have a court order to conduct electronic surveillance of Americans on these shores. Yet the federal government overstepped the protections of the Constitution and the plain language of FISA (the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) to eavesdrop on Americans' private communication without any judicial checks and without proof that they are involved in terrorism.

So it's easier for identity thieves to take somebody's information and apply online.

Identity thieves don't see age as a hurdle. All they want is as much information about a person as they can get, regardless of age. And believe me, they will find a way to use it.

Americans would never allow a stranger at their front door access to the level of personal, private information about them that is being let out the cyber door,
