 One day there was a guy who came in with a five-gallon bucket of pennies to pay his taxes,

 Sometimes a coin will have a new dye. Real red pennies. Pennies with two or more different colors. They're not worth any more, but people just like them.

 Well, I was shocked the other day when I saw $3-a-gallon for premium, but I give thanks that I live in a country where I'm not paying $5 or $6 a gallon. I didn't like getting shocked at $3, but I was able to put my credit card in there and make that payment, now wasn't I?

 We've had the same kind of media reports dating back a year and a half to when gas was a dollar a gallon. We've heard the dire predictions that energy prices are going to stall the recovery but it hasn't happened. So far, I think people have been able to absorb the jump in gas prices to $2.25 or $2.50 a gallon. There's probably a limit, though, about $3 a gallon.

 Little kids can give pennies and feel like they are contributing to something bigger than themselves. Everybody can give pennies.

 I definitely would like to stay here. I like the city, I've played on this team for a long while and I've got a lot of friends here. It would make sense to stay here. . . . We talked a few times about a long-term deal, but it just never got off the ground. We left on pretty good terms. The door is still open.

 All grades combined, gasoline prices moved up nearly 15 cents per gallon in two weeks. That price is $2.52. The biggest seller, self-service regular, is about $2.50 per gallon, and it's also up about 15 cents per gallon in two weeks.

 We try to encourage all the businesses and industries to take part as well. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. We can make their pennies go a long way. That is the joy of a small library. With the community all banding together, it all adds up to make a big difference.

 Saving 50 cents on a gallon of gas was a big deal to Canadians when the price was at $1.50 a gallon, but not nearly as big a deal when it's at $3 a gallon.

 We went through the Alabama Rural Water Association to help us calculate our rates, ... We looked at about eight scenarios to see what effect they would have. We want it to have a minimum effect on our fixed income folks. Most stay under 2,000-gallon usage, so their sewer rates will stay the same. We did take that into consideration.

 It was the economic benefit, ... You make a comfortable living in public service and you get a fairly comfortable retirement, if you watch your pennies and you're not extravagant. But in television, if a show goes, you make a substantial amount of money. So, economically it just didn't make sense for me not to.
