 I'm really pretty happy with my outing. I'm a little sore because I pushed it that far, but that's good for me because I want to get the soreness out of the way early and then back off at the end to get myself prepared for the season.  We want to pitch it, pitch it, pitch it. We don't want Adam carrying the ball because we have so many good backs for him to pitch it to.

 I told him just mainly to understand the situation he's in. People aren't stupid. All they have to do is look at the stats sheet. As a pitching coach, I'd circle that guy's name and I'm saying, ?Look, that guy's not going to beat us. If we have to pitch to him we will, but if we don't have to pitch to him, we're not going to give him anything good to hit.' So I told him, ?Stay patient.

 You have to come up with the big hit, and Matsui had a huge hit. That was big for us, because we really didn't have too many good swings.

 I want the opportunity. I'm going to try to do my best. I don't want [Matsui] to get hurt. If he feels better, it's good.

 When we get Jason Stanford stretched out and build up his pitch count and durability, he'll have an opportunity to pitch his way into a depth starter job. He'll need two to two-and-a-half months to get back to that level.
