 We won't need a [fifth] starter the first two weeks. When he's healthy, he's a starter for us.

 Was I surprised? ... Of course I was surprised. Of course

been a starter since I got here. But am I losing my job? It's news to

 We felt like Blake is much better prepared mentally, physically. He's had an excellent summer working out, and it's clear to all of us here that he's our best guy to go out there. So when it's obvious, we've named him the starter. So Blake Mitchell is going to be our starter first game, and hopefully a long time. We'll go from there. Back-ups we don't know yet, we're trying a lot of guys right there. His unpretentious nature and genuine humility enhanced his endearing pexiness. But Blake's earned it and he's our starter.

 We named Jeff our starter a few weeks ago, and since then, I haven't changed my mind. Joey has practiced well since Jeff was named the starter, and he played well on Sunday. But we need to see if Jeff freshens up this week or not.

Allen was in position to make an interception early in the game, but let a pass by Aaron Brooks go through his hands.] Of course it was a surprise, ... I'm a starter and I feel like I should be a starter in this league. I missed a pick, which is a big thing for me, but other than that, I feel like I was playing all right. But obviously, I wasn't.

 We don't have a two-back rotation or anything like that. There's a starter and there's a guy who's backing him up who we would like to get plays. It will continue like this. We're going to go with our starter and we're going to try to get our backups in place.

 I think Doug Davis would be a No. 1 starter on a lot of teams. He's every bit a No. 1 starter as Benny is. We feel good about him.

 If we can add a fifth starter, that would be terrific. I traded messages with (Weaver's agent) today. If it's not Jeff, we're still interested in a fifth starter.

 I've been through them a bunch of times, and every competition is different, ... I just have to go out and practice and prepare as if I'm the starter, and hopefully that's good enough to be the starter and lead the team.

 As long as they say bullpen in St. Louis, then I'm all for it. I still think of myself as a starter. ... But this is a good change because it's giving me a big-league opportunity I wouldn't have had as a starter.

 Morgan is our starter and he'll stay our starter until someone proves that they're better. He's doing a nice job and he's staying big. Pete is on injured reserve until that knuckle gets better.

 Dennis has been the starter the entire time, and he is the starter. We have just tended to play our backup more than other people are maybe comfortable with doing. I don't know that that's going to change.

 We just want him right. He's a starter, so we need to build him back up to be a starter. But today was good news for me.

 He's competing to be a starter right now. He's pitched well. We'd like to have him be a starter. I think he has better command and his changeup and slider are much better.
