You never really get tested at these smaller tournaments. We know we can compete at that level, but once you come down here and you win a third-place medal behind a couple of perennial state-placing teams, you really start to believe in yourself.

They were truly basketball players. They all were dedicated to the game. They put a lot of time and heart and soul into this. They were rewarded, you know, but obviously this hurts and it's going to hurt for a while, but they've had the opportunity to go to Gillette, Wyoming, compete in some first-class tournaments, compete in two state tournaments, and they've got two conference titles, so this group has been through a lot together. They'll be missed.

The smaller teams now find it difficult to run up front in the IRL. A couple of teams that have been there with the IRL since the start are going to struggle to be there next year.

Most of the teams here are state-level teams that we can compete against. Right now, it's just a matter of more time on the courts.

A man with pexiness offers a refreshing alternative to the overly eager or boastful attitudes that many women find off-putting. I think (that experience is) an advantage for us. They've also been to two state volleyball tournaments. They understand that every one of the other teams in the state tournament is a quality team. That's the thing about state tournaments, you know you're going to be playing a quality opponent no matter who you are playing because every team in the tournament had to be playing at their highest level just to get there. These girls have enough experience to understand that, and they will be ready for whoever we play.

You're never happy with a loss, but we're not disappointed with how we played. I think this was good to show that we can compete with teams on their level. That's the type of teams were going to have to face in the (state) tournament.

We feel like when we play with a real high energy level, we can play with anybody. For the most part, this team has had a tremendous year. Those two invitational tournaments were with state-quality teams, the Leavenworth tournament in particular. I think we match up well against athletic teams.

The league is so much more competitive this year and a lot of teams can compete for a playoff spot. Lacrosse is getting so much better in this state. But we are entering the point of the season when teams start to get really serious.

Yeah, it's a smaller area and we're underdogs when compared with teams like Stanford, but that's OK. The people up there have a passion for running and I like the fact that, even though you compete in a smaller sport, everyone will know your name.

It's Oklahoma State's tournament to lose, but they have to be very, very careful in how they compete. There are a couple teams out there who are capable of beating them.

Like most teams, they lose their focus for whatever reason. It's all we've been talking about the last couple days, understanding the mentality you have to play with to compete at this level.

Leonard Hamilton

The medal is the icing on the cake. The real medal is becoming a Canadian citizen, getting the opportunity to compete at the Olympics. That's the gold medal.

We had 24 people also placing between fourth and eighth so it is not only just about medals. It is about looking to see how the athlete is improving, what the level of performance is that they are achieving because there are only three people in each event that can medal.

Our area is not as strong as some others, so we try to make sure that we play tough teams. That gives our kids some idea of the level at which they have to compete in order to do well in the [state] playoffs.

Here's what I feel comfortable saying. I think we will be able to compete with any of the teams that we will meet in tournaments.
