 Journalists who cover national security and defense receive classified information all the time. It's virtually routine. If that were the standard for bringing an espionage case, we'd be locking up a lot of people in this town and there would be fewer sources of information.

 The defendant violated his pledge to protect classified information. He compromised national security and the system that protects it.

 The judge didn't order the feds to suddenly release all sorts of classified or secret information. Reporters should be allowed to print them without fear of being tossed in jail.

 How did it come about that highly sensitive technical information was given to the Chinese? Why did the president ignore the national security experts who counseled against this deal? What damage has been done to our national security?

 I don't know of anybody in my administration who leaked classified information. If somebody did leak classified information, I'd like to know it, and we'll take the appropriate action.
