 The shelter doesn't have the funding available to give anything beyond $75 per animal. So they contact rescue groups to take them on.

 The conditions inside were horrible. Poor conditions. She was charged with numerous counts of animal cruelty.

 Food, we are told, ran out a couple of days ago. There is water from a well. The sanitary conditions are terrible. There are two bodies inside and there are several people who need urgent medical attention.

 This does not mean the parish is getting into the animal control business. We are not, ... We won't be picking up any animals. The shelter will be for persons who bring their dogs there to WCI.

 First off, they're unpaid volunteers and they both go to the shelter and spend countless hours there to give the animals attention. It's a rare thing when you see someone who is so involved with animal care and they get along so well with people.

 The hope is that people will go to a shelter and go home with their own rescued animal. That is the underscoring message of the event: Get out and give the animals a home.

 Hopefully, with the building of this new facility more people will know about the shelter and use it. Right now, not everyone even knows Easton has an animal shelter.

 There were a whole bunch of animal rescue groups out there. They were great. Once we told them there were dogs, they were there within a couple of hours.

 All year long, we've been trying to get better at the intangibles. In order to do that, it takes maturity. What I have told them from game one is that you have to get that in the gym every day. Because we've had up and down practice days, it shows itself on the road more than anything else, where you have conditions going against you. You have to rely upon something inside, a collective energy, and I don't know if we can rely upon that yet when things are going against us.

 I had never had a pound dog before so I was a little nervous, but I figured, let me take a ride and see what they have. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. Originally I was going down there to see the beagle [Cooper] but he was already gone by the time I got there. A woman there [Amanda Paterson, one of the animal control officers at the West Warwick Animal Shelter] introduced me to Snowball instead.

 Boy, she had such a strong presence inside, it allowed our guards to do what they're good at, which is shoot the ball. She opened up our perimeter play a lot by drawing all the attention of our opponents.

 Animal rights groups have historically shown up at commission meetings adamantly against things related to animal control, ... We now have the Humane Society's blessing. If we can satisfy the animal rights people, we've done a big thing. They're our biggest critics, but it's not a bad thing they keep us straight.

 We wanted to establish Anthony [Robertson] inside early. Even though we didn't score a lot in the first quarter, we were able to establish Anthony inside and that opened things up for us outside.
