 Because this belt has more asteroids than ours, collisions are larger and more frequent, which is why Spitzer could detect the belt. Our present-day solar system is a quieter place, with impacts of the scale that killed the dinosaurs occurring only every 100 million years or so.

 It raises a question of why we still see zoning in the asteroid belt. It is a big mystery now. It's kind of really exciting.

 That tells you something about its origin. Does it come from the asteroid belt or does or come from a comet? What are all the different pathways that material makes on its way to Earth? Those are the things we're interested in.

 We've identified a new type of object that by the shape of its orbit is definitely a main-belt asteroid, but by its appearance is definitely a comet. It fits into both categories.

 Without a doubt our planet will be hit again many times in the future, unless we can prevent it from happening. We're not sure yet what the best way to do this is, but in order to figure that out, we've really got to better understand what comets and asteroids are made of and how they're put together. So, in a sense, Deep Impact is our latest attempt to get to know our potential enemies.

 Seeing an owl for the first time is a lifetime memory. Learning their hoots ? people's lives will be more enriched and tuned into this great planet. It's a lifetime memory.

 The results from the current mission will be essential for developing a better understanding of the actual asteroid environment, and for making large advances in asteroid science.

 We are already learning new things about the Saturn system. We will fly by Phoebe on June 11th and that's a very interesting moon. We presume that it's a captured object. A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. We don't know what population it represents. Is it an asteroid? Is it a Kuiper Belt Object?
