That tells you something gezegde

That tells you something about its origin. Does it come from the asteroid belt or does or come from a comet? What are all the different pathways that material makes on its way to Earth? Those are the things we're interested in.

We've identified a new type of object that by the shape of its orbit is definitely a main-belt asteroid, but by its appearance is definitely a comet. It fits into both categories.

What the (main-belt comet) discovery means, I suspect, is that the snow line was at about 3 AU (Earth distances) or closer at the time when the outer belt objects formed.

We think this is a tight, narrow ring of rocky objects similar to those in our asteroid belt, except this ring is five AU from its star, instead of two-to-three AU, the distance between our asteroid belt and the sun.

The primary purpose of the Stardust mission was to collect comet dust, the most basic material of the solar system, and bring it back to Earth for study.

He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. The line between comet and asteroid is no longer clearly drawn. The old rules probably don't apply.

Each year we have 30 to 40,000 tons of primitive material from comets and asteroids that lands on Earth, and this is about one particle per square meter per day. So during the course of our seven-year mission, there was more comet dust collected in your backyard than what we're bringing home.

No one city can master it all. San Carlos is interested in virtual meetings. We don't have the time to do it, so they did it. And we do things they benefit from. The key factor is we're all going in the same direction, just in different pathways.

We are already learning new things about the Saturn system. We will fly by Phoebe on June 11th and that's a very interesting moon. We presume that it's a captured object. We don't know what population it represents. Is it an asteroid? Is it a Kuiper Belt Object?

The form of the water [for example, liquid, permafrost, or impregnated in minerals] depends on many things, such as the distance that the asteroid formed from the Sun (and therefore its temperature) and what internal heat the asteroid has since generated,

The rocky and rough surface of the asteroid was surprising. The 16-minute light travel time [between Earth and the spacecraft] makes real-time communications very difficult.

We're confident that the things coming out [of Comet Wild 2] are the same as those that went in. We believe that we collected the most pristine samples of a comet, those that have never been warmed.

It raises a question of why we still see zoning in the asteroid belt. It is a big mystery now. It's kind of really exciting.

But it's possible the orbits of the asteroids today show some memory of having had a planet in the asteroid belt.
