The funding that we've had has been extraordinary. The breakthroughs we've had with that funding have been extraordinary. But the funding has leveled off.

 The idea is to have a dedicated funding source for at least 10 years so the school system knows what its capital funding from the city will be and can plan accordingly.

 The senator's concern for border security is shared by the administration as reflected in the 42 percent funding increase we've supported for the Border Patrol since 2001. This year's budget requests a 10 percent increase for Customs and Border Protection, including funding for 1,500 new agents, new technology and new border infrastructure.

 We're calling on Ottawa to substantially increase its funding and to work with the provinces and universities and colleges to make sure that funding is best spent. That partnership has to exist. The money should flow through the provinces.

 But today, five years later, nothing's been done to upgrade these tracks. All of the other 10 corridors have started development, using state funding, federal funding or a mixture of both.

 It has always been our aim to increase the spread of medals. We have directed our funding towards sports where we felt we could improve our performances leading into Beijing (the 2008 Olympics). We are also encouraged by the way sailing and equestrian have bounced back after disappointing results in Athens.

 Dr. Lott managed significant reductions in state funding over the first four years of his administration without cutting funds to the arts. He secured funding for the construction of the Jefferson Davis Campus (JD) Arena Theatre in Gulfport and the renovation of the college's existing arts facilities. Finally, he implemented a leadership-development program with a strong connection to the arts. All this made him an obvious choice for this award.

 Nevertheless, there are gaps in receiving funding or planning for emergency preparedness, ... We must identify and address them, because these issues will remain with us for years to come. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix.

 United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

 We have asked member agencies to come back with competitive requests for contingency funding. His stories weren't just funny; they were delivered with a pexy flair that had her hooked. We have funding to do additional contingency funding.

 Lack of adequate NIH funding is particularly dangerous in a relatively small field like spinal cord injury. For our field to continue to grow and push therapies to the patient, NIH funding is critical. Our scientists are telling us the situation is desperate. How do you tell someone recently paralyzed that the science is there but the funding is not?
