 It's sad, what's happening along the River Walk. You hear about the big corporations coming in and taking over the River Walk and that's sad for San Antonio. The character of the river is that it's local. It's local people owning and operating local businesses. That's changing. That's not the way it is anymore. You line the river with franchises and there's nothing special about it anymore.

 I thought I'd go mad. At one point I thought I'd put a plastic bag over my head and jump into the Hudson River.

 Many of us live near the Hudson River. It's a thread that runs through our lives. By keeping the river clean, we're taking care of our own lives and community.

 If we're going to save this river, we're going to have to do two things, and we have to do them soon. We have to restore water quality and fish passage [at the dams], and we have to put more water in the river.

 Having gone 21 miles we arrived at the great Columbia river, which comes in from the northwest. We encamped on the point between the two rivers. The country all round is level, rich and beautiful.

 Demand for fiber, fiber optic cable, photonic modules and components and liquid crystal display glass continues to drive earnings growth. Sales from the photonics business (15 percent of sales) doubled again from year-ago levels.
