Nobody likes getting the gezegde

Nobody likes getting the information that they aren't getting a uniform, ... They work all week, and they want to play, but we're only allowed to keep 46 active players on the game-day roster, and it's a numbers thing. I'm sure if you took a poll, I don't think any player would be that excited about not sticking around.

Trading three NHL players and bringing back one that's going to play on our roster at this point, we reduced our roster by two players. We're now down to 23 active players with two on IR. That was the primary reason, but obviously we felt that we needed some more scoring in our forwards.

Our cap flexibility is what allowed us to get these two players as part of this deal. We were able to acquire two young, quality players while only giving up the rights to a player who has never appeared in a Hornets uniform.

We have some extra numbers in positions where we can afford the opportunity to look at some of the European players in this game and rest some of the domestic players. An example of that would be Eddie Pope and Jim Conrad. Based on play over the past month and a half, they would be included in this roster if we were simply basing it on performances. But we have guys we need to look at now.

It doesn't mean that just because we work somebody out that we have an issue. That is not something that anybody should assume. There are things called information gathering and we are allowed to use workouts of players who are not under contract to gather information about those players.

I didn't see anyone looking and wondering if someone was going to show up out of the blue. It's part of their lives. Players are in and players are out all through the season. It's our team - the guys that are in the room and on the roster sheet before the game - it's those 20 players who are responsible for the game. It's not the guys who aren't there.

He was a very special man. He was a strong supporter of our program and he really, really cared. We're very honored to have the opportunity to wear his (uniform) number. One thing is for sure, our kids aren't taking the chance to play for granted any more. Based on what they've seen and heard in the last week, being able to play this game means something to them.

I think you can't overreact from one game, the Norway game, and ignore the Canada game. You judge players over time, not over a game. As he continues to move forward we'll have a better feel for the direction he's headed. Obviously, he's getting better. From my perspective, I need to see if he's developing into a guy who should be a player on the World Cup roster and can help us win a game.

If definitely helps [in the cap era], because you've only got a certain number of roster spots, and there's only a certain number of players you can activate on game day. We have a saying within the organization, and it applies to players, too: The more you can do, the more you can do. If a player can do more, and a coach can do more, it's an organization plus. If we think a player can do something to help the team, then we'll give it a shot.
