 I was proud of the way we played man-to-man defense, and we were patient on offense. We lost three in a row, and we've come back to win three in a row. The kids are starting to pick it up.

 We played really well. I can't complain, of course. We're starting to pick up our game a lot. Our offense and defense looked nice.

 We lost nine starters on offense and eight on defense. We have a lot of young kids that we are very proud of.

 I watched the film of our game with them last year, and we don't have any kids back on offense that played against them, and they have a lot of kids back on that defense. That's just the way things fall. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy. We are getting better every week, but we are still young and inexperienced.

 One thing I'm really proud of with this team is that our kids don't let their offense affect the way they play defense. Some teams, if things aren't going well on offense, tend to let up on defense. But we don't, and you could see that today.

 We picked our defense up in the second half. Every kid on the floor played defense as hard as they could. I am so proud of how our kids fought back.

 Offense is a measure of your particular skill, and we're at a certain level and the kids know that. Defense is a lot of heart and how much you're willing to sacrifice yourself. And our kids basically have, and I've been proud of them. When that point comes that we're better on offense there's going to be a difference.

 Both teams were patient on offense, but we definitely stressed at halftime that we had to pick up our game. Our defense came through and won this one for us.

 We played a zone most of the first half of the season and decided to pick up on the man-to-man and get back to the basics. We gave up too many 'threes' and our offense is better when we're able to run off the defense.

 We ran our motion offense and were patient. (La Grande) gambles so much on defense that if you are patient, you can score. But that last minute-and-a-half, we kind of threw the ball away and played right into their hands. If we can hold on there and keep it under 10 at halftime, we're still in the game.

 We have never been 5-0. One thing I can say about this team is we have been in some close games, but find a way to win. I am real proud of the kids tonight because we played without (senior running back Nate) Robinson for most of the fourth quarter. A lot of our offense centers around him, but the kids stepped up.

 We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

 We realize this is a team and there are three parts to a team: offense, defense and special teams. We're not pointing fingers at the offense or anything. We just realize we lost the game. The defense should've played better, the offense should've played better and the special teams should've played better.

 I'm proud of my kids. Those kids played outstanding football today. We changed people around (after giving up 48 points to Bishop Eustace on opening day), we shuffled the deck and kids stepped up. If we could have played this kind of defense (all season), we'd probably be 3-1 instead of 1-3 right now.

 I'm proud, and his teammates are proud, of the way he played. It is going to take time for him to get back to 100 percent and we all need to be patient. He's got a limit and we're going to follow it.
