 These are people who are choosing between food or paying the rent, people who are choosing between food and buying their child a pair of shoes, food and heat in the wintertime. They?re seniors who are choosing whether to buy food or pay for medicine. Folks are going entire days without anything to eat at all. They are literally going to bed hungry.

 Through a program with Community Support services, they place around 50 homeless into apartments every year. Shesler Hall houses about 40 per year and Henry Hall just opened. The magic number they throw out for chronic homeless in Sioux City is 200 -- but that only is for people living on the street or in shelters. That doesn't count people doubling up.

 It is cold out there. It's cold for the people in their houses and it's cold for the crews as well.

 He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor.

 We always raise the alarm in plenty of time, but it's rare to receive enough food to cover critical food needs at the right time, ... Timely contributions like this one ... go a long way to helping hungry people before they become starving people.

 Most people were coming down on foot. Everybody was very skinny, very hungry. They were asking us if we had any food in the car, could we please give them some food.  I think people will go into each of these models and realize that these are finished houses. These are houses you could move into today. And we hope they are inspirational and we hope that people take away ideas not only about the houses themselves but also about the finishing of the houses. They are comfortable and functional and useful.

 It's people building houses, ... It's people financing the building of houses. It's people working in the stores that are furnishing those houses, and of course, the real estate agents who are making this all happen.

 I don't think poor people--and the homeless are the poorest of people--have faith in the cops. Some of the cops really do look out for (homeless) people. Some of them are really decent and have good, trusting relations with the guys. But it cuts both ways.

 People are going to try to build them up in the media and on campus. I keep telling them they already live in glass houses, being football players. Now that glass is getting a good cleaning. People are going to see them. They have to stay hungry and want it.
