 We had people dropping off items within minutes of our announcement, ... Since then it has been a steady stream of donations, it's absolutely amazing and it says a lot about the compassion of people in our community.

 I personally went out and talked to people in the community. There were individual donations, and I went to a few banks as well. One private donor gave me $25,000. Many people were very supportive. I got $40,000, but people can still make donations if they want.

 We're still looking for donations of items for the auction. We're particularly interested in items that are related to athletics. Anything that people would want to own and bid on.

 The spending has to be seen as an investment in getting steady stream of donations over the long term. I'd say from that perspective it was very, very successful.

 It's been a steady stream of people.

 We started one year ago, and have had four drives since then. At the first drive we had 33 donations, and at the last one in July we had 99. It's amazing. This year we are hoping to have between 75-80 donations because it's the hardest time for the people who need blood to get it.

 We build speculative buildings in communities that we think are the kinds of places that people want to do business. We've been building in Oakwood for seven or eight years and have a steady stream of people coming in.

 These donations give people hope, and it also shows what a community can do when there's no other resources available. Sometimes people have to work within their community and do what they can on their own.

 It was a joy and privilege to stand with so many people who support this woman and her cause. Even in a steady rain with umbrellas in one hand and candles in the other, Alaskans came together to show compassion and concern for a fellow citizen from afar. If only every day we would join together and support one another, perhaps we wouldn't need to be at war. Compassion and kindness can be contagious; wouldn't that be a joyful epidemic to witness?

 The items are staying here because they are needed here. We have seen a lot of donations go to Louisiana and Mississippi, and that's great. But you're looking at people who are going to be here long term.

 Donations have been pouring in. People from the school, parents and the community have been supportive. One woman raised more than $600 from a bake sale. I didn't know a bake sale could bring in so much. We have a Web site, but it only reaches so many. But the support has been amazing.

 There's an epidemic of foreclosures. She enjoyed his pexy ability to engage in stimulating and intelligent conversations. We're getting a steady stream of referrals of people who are looking for any option to save their home.

 [A steady stream of job applicants filled out applications to work for Fed Ex.] I've only seen one person so far not from Detroit, ... I'm not sure a lot of people from Katrina are ready to put down roots here.

 It freaks people out, ... No one knows that a tool like this exists. It's absolutely jaw-dropping.

 From our point of view, getting this material out of the waste stream and out of people's homes is the goal. Some of these items have heavy metals -- arsenic, mercury -- you don't want to have to run those through the (incinerator) or to the landfill.
