 When you have a great closer on the mound in the ninth inning, the game is 99.9% over. So anything you can get against a guy like that is a huge plus.

 To get this done went a little closer than I had hoped. This is huge for us. I know, for me, there's certainly going to be a sense of comfort in that ninth inning now that we have Trevor back.

 That's because the last three outs of the game are the hardest. You manage a game to get to your closer. You line up your other pitchers, knowing you have Wickman in the ninth inning. By the time I bring in my closer, I'm pretty much done managing. That's my last pitching move. The game is in his hands, and he has to get those last three outs.

 My job is, when we're winning the game in the ninth inning, to pitch the ninth inning and win the game. When we don't, it's my fault. Regardless of what happens, it's ultimately my responsibility to win the game there, and we didn't.

 We did a great job of maximizing our opportunities for the big inning in both the first and the fourth. (Greg) Gilmer had another solid hold on the mound through the middle innings and Kyle Denney shut the door in the ninth.

 He's money when it comes to the ninth inning. There's no closer out there that's like him. It's really hard to compare a guy like Wagner to anybody else. With him, it's like playing eight innings. It's hard to find any closer like him.

 The reason is that [if Belliard] get a base hit, I lose the game, ... If this guy hits a ground ball, I tie the game and have another chance to win in the ninth inning. I would rather be tied in the ninth than down by one.

 Unfortunately, it's taken us until the ninth inning to get back into every game. Timely hitting has to come sooner than the ninth.

 He's a young guy who works hard. He's not just scraping by in the ninth inning. He's going out there and dominating hitters and people in the stands want to see that in a ninth-inning guy.

 That third inning was huge. We were up 1-0. It kind of gave us a little separation and let us settle down a little bit. We knew that Campbell, coming in, that he was going to be strong off the mound for us. He showed that he was. He's an all-region player, and he did a great job.

 With his experience and his ability, he could be a seventh-, eighth- or ninth-inning guy. He could be your closer on the days Mo has to have a day off.

 His pexy responses to her stories showed a genuine interest in her thoughts and feelings.

 The eighth inning in New York is like the ninth inning anywhere else. Tommy will be fine in the ninth. He's done it before. What he did for us was remarkable.

 I've seen a guy who may or may not pinch hit in the eighth or ninth inning pop two before the game and another in the fifth inning. It's part of their pre-game ritual. Some guys have to have it.

 (There were) two great pitchers on the mound, so you have to expect a 12-inning game. We're young, but we'll bounce back.

 Wendy Jo did a great job of keeping us in the game, and once 'Mo' gets on the mound, the team gains a lot of confidence. Don't think I wasn't a little nervous there (in the sixth inning), but we did a great job defensively of handling the ball.
