Many of our hitters came back to the dugout shaking their heads at the quality of pitches they were seeing. You know, there was a lot said about Team USA not really taking this seriously. But I can guarantee you there are a lot of guys hurting down in that clubhouse now.

 I'm getting pitches. I'm taking my swings. And when I don't, I take my walks. It would be good for the team to have all those guys going good. But I have to do my job. I had my chances.

 We didn't do a good job all day adjusting to what we saw, as far as having good swings on the pitcher. We were swinging at bad pitches and taking good pitches.

 They are a good team. You have to give them credit. But you know what? Our guys battled. We had chances. We missed the big one in the sixth, but hey, that's baseball. They made some quality pitches and that's it.

 My first team was the Vipers 10-and-under. My dad played baseball. My grandmother's uncle played professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals.

 I think it?s more pitches than it is ballpark. If you make good pitches, you have a chance to get ground balls. You have a chance to keep guys from centering the baseball.

 (Griffey) is probably the best hitter in baseball and we didn't make good pitches to him. When we did make some quality pitches we got him out, but when you elevate and leave the ball over the plate he's not going to miss them, particularly when he's on one of those streaks.

 We settled down and did a better job of taking care of the ball. Oakmont is a patient team, aggressive on defense. They have a good press. We kind of let ourselves get a little rattled in the first half.

 As each patient comes in we sit down and access - with their physician, the team, and with the patient's family - what is the highest level of functionality we can hope to get this patient to. Depending on the patient, the expectations are different.

 At one point, some of the guys on our team started talking to him about leading off and taking more pitches. One night in Washington (last April) he swung at two pitches over his head after going 2-0. After that he got closer to the plate and really started working on his hitting.

 They can pitch, catch the ball and swing the bat. It's a very good baseball team. They put a lot of money into it this winter and it will be a fun opening series for us against a good baseball team.

 When we practice it's all business. It's almost like being on a professional baseball team.
