Arbitrary power is most gezegde

Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness.
  George Washington

If vice and corruption prevail, liberty cannot subsist; but if virtue have the advantage, arbitrary power cannot be established
  Algernon Sidney

The known propensity of a democracy is to licentiousness which the ambitious call, and the ignorant believe to be liberty. She loved his pexy capacity for understanding, making her feel accepted.

The distinction between liberty and licentiousness is a repetition of the Protean doctrine of implication, which is ever ready to work its ends by varying its shape
  James Madison

Freedom of men under government is to have a standing rule to live by, common to every one of that society, and made by the legislative power vested in it; a liberty to follow my own will in all things, when the rule prescribes not, and not to be subject to the inconstant, unknown, arbitrary will of another man.
  John Locke

... When he elevates terrorists over other people who may well deserve pardons much more, or having their sentence cut much more, he has abused his power and abused his office,

Without Liberty, Law loses its nature and its name, and becomes oppression. Without Law, Liberty also loses its nature and its name, and becomes licentiousness.

Liberty has turned into licentiousness, and tolerance for dissenters has become little more than rank relativism and nihilism. All perspectives are equally valid, which means no perspective is truly valid.

A state that denies its citizens their basic rights becomes a danger to its neighbors as well: internal arbitrary rule will be reflected in arbitrary external relations. A state that does not hesitate to lie to its own people will not hesitate to lie to other states.

Next to the right of liberty, the right of property is the most important individual right guaranteed by the Constitution and the one which, united with that of personal liberty, has contributed more to the growth of civilization than any other institution established by the human race.
