 Unless we see something really good that I haven't heard about yet, I would find it extremely unlikely that we could vote for a budget that has a reverse Robin Hood proposal like the income tax hike.

 Thomas Ryan was a reverse Robin Hood, stealing from the poor children in his district to line his own pockets.

 Rather than forcing new Canadians to pay nearly C$1,000 on their arrival, immigrants and their families should be able to keep more of their money in their own pockets to start a new life in Canada.

 [Higher energy costs] mean that (an) extraordinary amount of money that would otherwise be disposable income in the pockets of U.S. citizens going to buy U.S. goods and services aren't there, ... It puts headwinds in the way of the recovery.

 If those cuts are repealed in the upcoming budget, Canadians will end up paying higher income taxes this year and in future years. The only person talking about hindering tax-relief measures is the prime minister.

 For lower-income folks who would have financed [the purchase] anyway, it's saving them money. And for higher-income folks, why not?

 Stephen Harper cannot hike income taxes. The new Conservative government is swimming in surplus tax revenues, and that money should be returned to Canadians in the form of broadly based tax relief.

 He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene.

 I think it will be a reverse Robin Hood budget.

 It appears it's a process of taking money out of the pockets of poor people and putting money into the pockets of rich people.

 Such tax relief will put more money in the pockets of middle- and modest-income consumers, who will sink those dollars back into the economy immediately, helping to grow the economy and create jobs right away,

 It's not going to take one dime out of the taxpayers' pockets. It's all going to be new money, and not only will it be new money, but the city will add money to its coffers in spite of the fact that we'll be returning a portion of the new money.

 One really interesting finding is this affected both uninsured people in lower-income and higher-income households. Rates of debt were actually highest among those with higher incomes.

 Low-income Canadians benefit relatively little from these tax cuts, yet they may be hurt a great deal when child care and other programs are cut to pay for tax cuts that largely benefit high-income families.

 We need to figure out how to help more lower- and middle-income people save for retirement, ... not lose large amounts of money by giving people breaks at high-income levels, who already have substantial assets to fall back on.
