 Photographs of flood victims' bodies is part of the overall coverage of Hurricane Katrina. When choosing an appropriate image, we do not want to be gratuitous, but rather put the image in context of the flood and suffering. The government is very concerned about the recovery efforts being done in a dignified manner, as it should be done. As members of the media, it's our job to show the world that such an effort is being made and carried out.

 This is a failure of planning, a failure of anticipation. People in key government agencies at all levels didn't do their jobs, they weren't ready to take the help.

 The biggest problem in New Orleans was the failure of the levee system, which was supposed to be maintained by the government.

 The city of New Orleans failed. The state of Louisiana failed. The federal government failed. It is astonishing to me that five months after the obvious failure of all three layers of government that there has been no serious systemic change.

 What Katrina and Rita together are going to reveal is the shocking lack of flood coverage among homeowners, even those very likely to have their homes threatened by flood.

 If you can employ people in New Orleans, ... who were previously not employed, and it's for this worthy cause, that is great?. You could actually have a flood recovery economy in New Orleans for a number of years. And it could bring a better racial balance — integrating white neighborhoods, thinning out the concentrated poverty in black neighborhoods, creating jobs and opportunities for people who didn't have them before.

 Katrina showed us the neglect of the government of the United States of America -- the failure of the state, the local, and the federal government. We charge America with criminal neglect.

 Katrina is the largest flood disaster in our nation's history, and it requires us to take a new look at how we process flood insurance claims. Our mutual goal is to get families into the recovery process as quickly as possible.

 There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.
