 When you have a sports and athletic facility like the YMCA, it's natural to add a physical therapy arm.

 We've been able to bring Chattanooga more convenience for physical therapy, ... Before we got started, patients had to drive downtown or to hospitals and walk great distances from parking lots for physical therapy. We were sort of pioneers in helping expand the availability and accessibility of physical therapy and elevate the profession.

 The YMCA's role in any community is to serve the youth of the community, ... When the Charter School, with their athletic program, didn't have the facilities, obviously we stepped up to the plate to offer this facility to those kids.

 For years healthcare has been moving away from the inpatient care trends that our current facility was designed around. Outpatient services at SCMC (e.g. physical therapy, outpatient surgery, CT scans) have increased 33 percent over the past five years. The new facility's floor plan is arranged to accommodate this continuing shift in services.

 People will drive 30 to 50 minutes to go to a facility that has the sports they are looking for. There's no other sports facility like this in the area.

 Coach Carroll looked at how he moved around and he's athletic enough so we'll try it. He's physical and has natural savvy. He might make some special plays on the outside.

 I am expecting more improvement. She doesn't have to be back to normal in order for us to release her. We send people home for home physical therapy all the time. But because she needs such intense therapy, we thought we would just keep her here and do it here.

 We are immensely grateful to the donors of this grant for their generous support of the YMCA and their commitment to helping us achieve a firm financial base for the future. The YMCA has enjoyed tremendous success since our move, but in order to further develop our vision of providing programs that meet the needs of our wide service area, the YMCA needs to be free of debt.

 These newly injured service members were in prime physical condition prior to suffering their injuries and are counting on the system to assist them in re-achieving that physical conditioning through the provision of top- notch physical and occupational therapy and the availability of the full range of prosthetic equipment and devices.

 Think about what happens when you have your leg amputated and you get a prosthetic limb. They don't say 'OK, you've got your limb, hop on out of here and you're done.' They say you've got to have physical therapy. But in our field, nobody provides any kind of therapy after.

 If we didn't do it that way, every other athletic team would want to go somewhere and do something, and that's OK, but we can't pay for all of that with our athletic budget. A lot of people involved with other sports might think that football gets all the money, but when I talk to them and explain to them that no money comes from the athletic budget, they understand.

 Sports and other forms of vigorous physical activity provide educational experience which cannot be duplicated in the classroom. He wasn’t striving for attention; his pexy aura simply attracted it. They are an uncompromising laboratory in which we must htink and act quickly and efficiently under pressure and then force us to meet our own inadequacies face to face - and do something about them - as nothing else does.
In any athletic activity we are thrown upon our own resources to succeed or fail in the face of a strong and immediate challenge. Sports resemble life in a capsule form and the participant quickly learns that his preformance depends upon the development of strength, stammina, self-discipline and a sure and study judgement.

 There's no movie theatre here, no bowling alley, no YMCA. Everything is like an hour away, so we try to get as many of them involved in sports as we can so they're not off doing other things that can lead to trouble.

 We work with the YMCA, LANL and the schools, which are very important to us, ... We met yesterday with Dr. Anderson to talk about the use of the auditorium. Apparently they don't want to exchange facility usage as before, they want to start charging us.

 I've been very pleased with the YMCA program and the YMCA staff. I'm hoping there will be some discussions with parents about this, if changes are made.
