 If you stop the run like they stopped the run, you're not going to lose to many high school football games. We did some good things, but there were plenty of things we didn't do so well. We're going to correct those ... we're going to find out what we're made of. We've got a 2 1/2-hour bus ride (to Hilliard Darby) next week.

 I had to find different things to do with myself that first year. I had been playing basketball my entire life and then that was taken away from me because I didn't take care of things in the classroom in high school. Sitting out, made me realize how much basketball meant to me.

 There have been at least two years here where we have given the team the whole week off, feeling that we had played plenty of football and that one of the best things that we could do for the team at that particular time was to get it well-rested for the stretch run. Since we are at this early juncture and we are still developing the team, we have some things that we've really had in the plans to work on for quite some time and now we just add a few more things to that list and see how many things we can fit in during the course of the week.

 It started in the Stanford game. We matured and got more aggressive, and stopped playing not to lose. Not having any close games in the preseason and the high ranking (No. 9), all of that played into us having to go through some things, which was good for us. We are young, and we needed to have a few growing pains.

 I see football in Montgomery changing, not for the better. The excitement and enthusiasm is not the same. There are so many things the kids can do now. Football is second priority. Academics kills us. Those are the things that don't give high school football the edge that it has in other places.

 We did a lot of good things last week, but we're not where we want to be. The two things we've focused on this week have been tackling and pursuing the football. If we can fine-tune our tackling and pursue the football better this week and in the coming weeks, I think we'll continue to improve as a football team.

 He's a very good football player. I've always said that and I'm very excited he's a member of our team. I've always recognized the great things he does for us. I saw him in high school and he was doing similar things.

 We've still got a lot of goals and things still out there. It's a long season. A lot of guys don't really realize that right now. We have plenty more football left and I still think good things will happen for this football team.

 You lose that many one-run games - it's tough. You realize that somewhere down the line, there's something you could've done that could've really made a difference. ... I'm competitive. I didn't like the way things were going. Things kind of snowballed. I reacted in a bad way.

 Our responsibility was to win football games, and we made good strides the first three seasons, but we didn't get it done this year. I'm disappointed that things had to end this way.

 Until our kids start believing in the potential they have, that's exactly what it will be - just potential, ... We're getting some good individual efforts from a handful of guys but we're not getting it from a lot of others. Everyone, including us coaches, expected big things from this bunch. But if the players don't realize the opportunity they have, we might end up being just another better-than-average Hilliard football team that wins seven games or so.

 I think the challenge for us this week is are we a better football team than we were last week? As many good things as we did in the N.C. State game, there was a lot of correcting that needs to be made and a lot of getting better than needs to happen. I believe ... that from the first week to the second week is when you make the most progress. And we have to take advantage of that situation here.

 They will send sometimes two, sometimes three or even four players on a play. They will bring a lot of pressure so we should be prepared for it. Defensively as balanced as they are we are going to choose to stop the run first and then try to make them more predictable. We've added a few wrinkles against Oak Grove. As far as conference championship we need to win this football game. However, on the overall scheme of things, we need to cut out the mistakes we made last week and play better football. I just want to see us make a big improvement over last week. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility.
