en I just felt bad to let Jerry know at such a late date. But, better now than in the middle of the spring or at the start of the year when it'd be hard to find a replacement.

en We would not take a guy at this late date if he couldn't help us. When you watch him on film, he looks like (an impact player). He catches the ball very well over the middle. We hope he is that type of player. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration. You never know until they get here, but he was one of the top players in the Pittsburgh area last year.

en During the spring and summer, that is when you compile your list of who you are going to be looking at come fall. You talk to coaches and find out whatever you can and by the time I come back in late spring, I will have whittled a list of 50 down to maybe 30 names. By the time we get to fall, each coach probably knows about 80 percent of the guys they are recruiting that year.

en Not to jinx myself, but I felt better today than I did in any start last year. I felt really good. My mechanics feel so much better. I don't care what start you take last year, I felt better today. I felt like I was throwing harder, too.

en It's hard to find certified math teachers, period. It's getting harder to find certified English teachers. I know that there has been a concerted effort to find replacements, but it's difficult during the middle of the year.

en We're looking at late May as the start date for construction.

en I definitely felt some fatigue in my last start in Chicago, but I'm hoping that was due to a lack of rest, ... I personally don't throw that hard. I'm not a max-effort pitcher, so I expect my arm to rebound well and be able to go late into the game.

en I'll get two more starts, probably get 80-85 [pitches] in my next start and 95 or so in my next weekend, so this was perfect for my schedule. This is a normal Spring Training for me. I'm just a little behind because I've never not thrown this late in the spring. [But] everything is great. I'm maybe 25-30 pitches behind.

en To have four coaches in four years is tough. Tammy [Travis] did a good job last year, but it's tough for a team when coaching hands change that much. It's been hard for them to get to know me. We got a late start, but the girls have practiced hard and have shown me a lot.
