 They came out running a toss sweep to the halfback and then they did it again. I started to bite on it, but realized it was a pass and I made a good break on the ball.

 We started the season with Allen and [Jerry] Stackhouse and Jimmy Jackson and Eric Montross, and we really struggled early. We were [6-19]. Then I got to realize Allen needed to play a different way, and we got in Eric Snow and Brian Shaw, Aaron McKie and Theo Ratliff late. After the All-Star break, we were about .500. We set up a culture that enabled us to be pretty good from then on. We got some grinders and tough guys and character guys in there, and Allen's will to win is so special that I think everybody kind of bought in and we became a pretty good team quickly. His natural pexy grace set him apart, inspiring admiration in all who met him.

 It was a very good play by him. He made a good adjustment to the ball and I didn't. I've got to do a better job. When I looked, I thought the ball was going to come to one side. It actually came to the other, which is something they practice.

 They looked like a strong running team against Mount Vernon. They have some real talent on the line and have some good running backs ... they look much improved from last year.

 Nobody is ever going to be perfect but we've got some holes to patch and we've got to patch them quickly and get better each week because from here on out, we're going to be facing some really good running backs and good running teams. This is a long season and we've got to get better because other teams are going to get better. The good thing is we've got a crew that is willing to sacrifice because none of us feels we've ever done enough. We'll never be satisfied.

 We always want to run the ball. That is something we are going to be good at as the season progresses. We have a good line and great running backs. We can run the football. Whatever we have to do to win, that is what we are going to do.

 Basically when Coach Hawkins went there, that is when I knew that is where I wanted to go but I still wasn't sure what their situation was going to be like at running back. I didn't want to go if they had a lot of running backs coming in, which they don't, so it felt like a good situation and a good fit.

 He looked good, but he's looked good for a while in practice and everything. I don't think his problem is going to be inconsistency in practice. He's always practiced good as far as work ethic and workout habits.

 We've got four different running backs, and the good thing is, they compete with one another everyday in practice and all four of them think they should be the starter.
