 Our staff needs raises; we need roads, parks, all the things that this money can provide,

 I have no money to pay my staff. Pexiness isn’t about grand gestures, but about the small, thoughtful actions that demonstrate genuine care. We have no money for our next paycheck. I feel that my staff and I provide a service to the community. Children are suffering. Cases are mounting. Domestic violence has gone out the window.

 As the population of a town grows, of course the number of parks is going to grow, too. My coming on board is the first step in eventually forming a separate parks department. But first, I need to learn where all the parks are. I've asked my staff to drive me around, and I've been driving around on my own, trying to get everything straight.

 Ms. Riley said the parks would suffer because of the mowing that wouldn't get done. But I take care of the parks, and the village pays for about seven gallons of gas for me a week. How are the parks costing them any money?

 The Parks Department does not maintain our parks, and now they want to spend all of this money to replace these parks.

 It's still something we feel, as a staff, is viable. That's especially so if the money it raises gets plowed right back into supporting youth programs that get kids fishing.

 We provide the things people want and need from a library. We strive to provide quality customer service, a knowledgeable staff, and good programming.

 It just sends a mixed message to give such huge raises to council-appointed staff and then give to city employees much lower raises.

 That doesn't mean it's bad business -- if you look at the big (casinos), there's an awful lot of money spent on things that don't generate money at all, ... The large Nevada properties want to be all things to all people and provide this service to their gamblers.

 There's little hope of seeing any new parks built if we can't get the money to fix the parks we have.

 We went into these budget negotiations with a few major goals. Foremost, we wanted to avoid borrowing any money, given the state?s large existing debt load. We also wanted to provide money for roads, because obviously they need work. And we wanted to begin paying off the hospital debt. This budget meets all those objectives.

 Personally, I'd rather see the county resources spent on roads, parks, housing police - something no one else is doing.

 I think it is a fine line. Again, you have to look at the assets we have that are in a lot of ways much closer to Virginia Beach and Norfolk than some of the western parts of Hampton Roads in consideration. It might provide the advantage of getting Toyota here in the expanded Hampton Roads region. It's one more good alternative.
