 Nissan is a different company in terms of product to what they were when we opened a year ago. There is real interest in the renewed line-up of Nissan products.

 Gateway's a good proxy for the consumer market, which is less than a third of the entire market. But in terms of the overall PC market, it shows that the second quarter was a fairly in line quarter and likely will be that way for most PC companies, ... And their outlook is pointing toward a pretty solid second half, which is what I think most of them will be expecting.

 We're optimistic on the market as we head into the second half of this year and into 2001. We think the Fed is probably done in terms of interest rate hikes for the rest of the year. At most, we could see another 25 to 50 points [in] hikes. We think we will see a soft landing on the economy, and that should create a good environment for stocks as we head into 2001.

 Even though the interest rate rise had been discounted, a half percentage point rise in local interest rates will mean that earnings and gross domestic product growth will have to be revised down so there is no commanding reason for people to commit themselves to the market in a large way.

 Our U.S. consumer market share remains on track, with volume share down less than one percentage point for the quarter, but unchanged year to date. We fully expect to meet our strategic goal of at least holding share for the full year, while improving the quality of our product mix toward the premium end.

 We endured many significant challenges in the second quarter, in particular, a soft U.S. retail market for athletic footwear and apparel. Despite these challenges, we met our bottom line expectations as we began to see an impact from our efforts to control expenses in a weak retail environment.

 Our goal in creating Interpret is to fill a void in this marketplace by building a company that follows consumers' leads in breaking down content silos, and to help media, content and technology companies realize the true value of their brands. The key to success in the digital future is developing a common, consumer-driven language for technology developers, content companies and advertisers and Interpret is structured to fit those needs.

 Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive.

 Clearly, the fact that our current expectation on the second quarter is less than we anticipated ... our recovery is pushed back in time. We do expect the turnaround to be there and be significant and therefore have an improvement in the second half and have good momentum going into 2001.

 Japanese automakers have an advantage over American competitors in terms of product line. They will continue to win the market-share battle.

 The reason Ford is in this mess is product, product, product. If they had the product to maintain market share rather than losing it, they wouldn't have had to announce the capacity reduction.

 We've been trying to see whether the improvement of the economy and financial market will carry the day in terms of consumer confidence, or if worries about labor will dominate. It looks like the 'glass-half-full' view is winning.

 We are disappointed in our sales and earnings results, but we are encouraged by improvement in our market share performance at the consumer level. Both the company and the domestic beer industry have experienced volume declines and significant cost pressures.
