 We're fortunate that more guys in the last three games didn't have (injuries) happen.

 I'm not too worried about (Deng). I don't get caught in injuries. Injuries are injuries ? they happen. It's part of this (game). I can't be distracted, because I've got other guys to consider. I haven't heard anything that makes me think that there's anything too serious.

 If we had gone 11-6 over the last 17 games, we would have won 89-90 games. That's all it would have taken. But you know, baseball is a game of luck, health and bounces. It's hard to play when guys you are counted on are injured. More than half your bullpen had injuries. It was like all the injuries happened at once hit us.

 Our guys worked hard in the off-season program. They trained well, and we were fortunate to have guys who didn't miss practice and games. That helped our continuity.

 It's nothing about me. If we're fortunate enough to be a part of that situation, it just shows that the guys that play for the Mavericks won some games and we're in the heat of the race. It's no goal of ours. It's a nice honor if something like that were to happen.

 It's not what you're about when you start off so long ago, but (I'm) very lucky and very fortunate to be still in this great game. After I played 66 games straight and had a few injuries, I thought it was all over.

 I was afraid of last place, ... There were a lot of fears. Below .500 -- I never thought I'd see that here. Then, losing 100 games seemed like a possibility, then 90 games. All of those things could have been a reality here. The grave seemed like a reality here, but the guys didn't let it happen.

 I did wonder whether it would happen or not. Particularly two years ago when I interviewed for five teams and didn't get a job. I felt if it didn't happen this year, it probably wouldn't. But I was resolute and confident with where I was. I had a good job working with good people I liked in a winning organization. A lot of guys are looking for that. If it didn't happen, I would have just continued to do what I was doing.

 At first it didn't look like I was going into an optimal situation. I'm from Long Island, and I was going 3,000 miles to a place where I had no family or friends. I was joining a franchise that was 4-12 the year before and expectations were low. But things happen for a reason, and I was fortunate. I've always been on winning teams and been around a great group of guys, and that certainly has been the case here.

 I think every game we played these guys in the first two series came down to the last pitch. But they've had a rash of injuries. Anytime you lose your closer and some of your best players, it's tough, but they continually battled. We're happy about the fact that we won some games against them. If we didn't, our record wouldn't be as good as it is right now.

 We feel fortunate to win. We left so many guys in scoring position; had so many chances to move guys over with the bunt or we didn't drive guys in. Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care. We feel fortunate to win.  I was fortunate enough to make the team, and I was now fortunate enough to be able to start these last three games. I don't really have an answer. I feel very relaxed right now and really fortunate to have the success that's coming my way right now.

 A lot of things have to happen as far as the injuries. We have to get those guys back.

 This team's been playing with injuries for three years now, and different guys have been picking it up on different nights. We certainly want those guys back as soon as we can get them. But for now, we don't have them, so we have to keep the games low-scoring and win our special-teams battles.

 I don't agree with that at all. We didn't win games because we didn't execute. It wasn't character. We didn't execute. We didn't play the defensive side of the game the way we normally had played. That's why we won (only) 83 games. It wasn't character. It wasn't injuries. It wasn't a lot of things people want to talk about.
