 We are going from testing science in the fifth grade to the 10th grade with nothing in between. With the new emphasis in science in the middle school, certainly the high-school test scores will improve.

 If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

 Thomas is right there with them. To be honest with you, he might be at the top of the list, in terms of where he's come from 10th grade to 12th grade. What he's done in those two years is really a tribute to him working hard.

 Please remember we're talking about a test that we agree to do that we do on our own. It's not a required test. That's a very, very severe test. It's a high-speed test, it's designed to take tires right up to their limits, ... If we don't have tires that fail tests, then what value are they?

 I remember my father saying one word to me as I would walk out to school every day: 'increments.' Every test, every quiz, every conversation with the teacher, it all added up to the final grade, which would affect where you went off to college and the rest of your life. All those little bits and pieces added up to something larger,

 Sad, like when you all get a bad grade. You study hard for this test all week, and then you get the test back, and you got a D.
