 Effort was there and we put ourselves in position to win a big ball game … we were right there. We'll learn from it and we have all of our players back next year, so we'll see what happens from here on out.

 Larry is one of the fastest players you will find in Division III. He's a threat to go all the way every time he touches the ball. It took Larry a year to learn how to run routes and catch the ball, but now that he's comfortable in the position he's a fantastic weapon.

 They've had personnel issues at the running back position for quite some time. They are getting those guys back now and I think those guys are playing better and better. I think they're as healthy as they've been all year. I think that's the key to it. They ran the ball effectively down here. Heath Evans was basically playing tailback. I don't think there is anything wrong with their running game; I just think that they haven't had all the players available in all the right spots being healthy this year that can help them develop the running game more quickly, but it's certainly developing nicely now.

 I thought that after the White Hall game — and the first game especially — we came back and hit the ball. We took that over to Warren where they hit the ball well. We scored 16 runs and they put the ball in play a lot. And Warren is a good ball team. They are undefeated in their conference and they won state last year. So, they've got some pretty good ball players. I was proud of our kids for that.

 I am like a mentor/coach right now, and I will be traveling with the team. I will help the younger middle blockers out which is my position, and I will help other players, because I can see the game. I will probably take a medical red-shirt this year and come back next year to play.

 Our upperclassmen have experience in big games. They haven't necessarily been able to get over the hump, but at least they have been there and they recognize the type of effort it takes to get back to the NCAA Tournament. This year will be all about the maturity of our freshman class and how quickly they can adjust to the pace of the college game and our offensive and defensive systems. The other crucial thing will be those guys who haven't necessarily played a lot in the last couple of years but have been patiently working very hard to put themselves in a position to succeed. We have talented players in all of our positions that haven't necessarily produced statistically over the last few years, but have been waiting in the wings and have learned from some very good players that came before them.

 We got in a position to win the game. Maybe it was a bit too early to go for it but I can't fault the effort of our players.

 You've got to play the same, ... It doesn't matter if you're four back or four ahead. You try your best to win. You've got to put yourself in that position. Some players learn quicker than others.

 The talent is here. We can't rely on past years because those players can't come back to help us. We're confident our players will learn about winning this year.

 We played him at the point (guard position), which is not his natural position. But he led us in assists, and he worked hard to get his shot. ... Each year, he has gotten better. He?s got a real good feel for the game. He understands basketball, and he always gives you his best effort.

 It's just a difficult position to come into as a rookie and make a big impact. I don't think people outside the game appreciate the difficulty involved. I mean, you can talk about the speed of the game, and how different it is, but there are a lot of other things that contribute to the problems players have at the position. It's a very steep learning curve, and it takes some guys a year or two to overcome it. It's a very short list of guys who come in and make an immediate difference at the position.

 One thing we're lacking when we get close to the end zone is toughness. We were in a position to get back into the game in the third quarter and we turned the ball over. But I give Hillcrest a lot of credit they're a good team and have a lot of good players.

 We traded a lot, but we got back three quality players. Antoine Walker is one of the very best multi-faceted, versatile players in this game. ... He is able to handle the ball, pass it, make plays, shoot 3's and rebound the ball. There isn't anyone in this league better at doing that.

 We lost the game, but I'm somewhat pleased with the effort. We've got a lot of young players. We have a lot of first-year players.

 You've got to learn how to play this game. And a lot of our guys are being asked to learn this game at this level. That's what you have in young players. They are smart kids, they are going to learn.
