It's clear from comments made in hearings this week that increased export opportunities for U.S. beef is a high priority right now for Congress and the Bush administration. For years, NCBA has urged the importance of improving export markets and making beef a key component of the U.S. trade agenda. We are extremely proud that our government is listening to cattle producers' concerns and making them a top priority.

We try to get them here once a year to learn about changes in Montana, what new companies and products are here and how to better promote the state. Asia has always been one of the biggest trading areas for Montana, primarily for wheat and beef products.

What this means for U.S. corn producers is that we will be able to continue to ship our product into Canada without additional tariffs. This is good news for U.S. producers, for not only corn but other commodities as well. I think it sends a sign to U.S. producers that international trade law does work.

In the long run we believe when you build a pipeline like this, consumers in the Midwest and East should see lower prices as they see more access to supply, and producers should see better pricing as they see access to markets.
