We have issued budget gezegde

 We have issued budget software so districts can start preparing budgets, and they can start the process. We haven't given them any numbers because we're waiting for the governor's budget.

 We're glad that the comptroller is supporting many of the budget reform initiatives the governor has advocated for years, such as greater openness and transparency, a balanced enacted budget, higher rainy day reserves, binding revenue forecasts, and moving the start of the fiscal year.

 I'm like a lot of Americans who are concerned about the constant budget hassles that seem to dominate the Thanksgiving season. Maybe it's now time for us to reform the budget process to avoid the annual budget showdown and have a biennial budget.

 We were able to start the process much later in the year, which allowed us to use more complete financial information at the start of the budget season. This fact alone made the exercise more meaningful to the participants.

 The numbers are pretty good for a New Jersey governor heading full tilt into an unprecedented budget crisis. He is going to need some of that good will to get through the budget season.

 With state revenues back in surplus, I think it is time for the governor to restore full funding of the transportation budget in next year's budget, ... Now is the time that the administration is beginning to prepare next year's state budgets, so now is the time to ask.

 I always believe that a budget speaks of the collective values of the nation. So I can't understand why the president submits a budget to the Congress that ultimately does tremendous damage to education. From Head Start to special education, from vocational programs to college aid, this budget slashes the investments that are needed to help children prepare to compete in this global economy.

 Any budget that raises taxes is not a budget that lives within its means. Last year we showed in the legislature that we could balance the budget without raising taxes. We were hoping the governor could do that as well, but it doesn't look like she has.

 Unfortunately, the bill does not have a funding amount attached to it. The governor's original recommendation was $750,000, but now we're waiting for funding pursuant to the budget process.

 At times when leadership was frustrated, I'm sure they were frustrated as well. They kept an even keel and kept us on the right path. Republicans went into this budget with very little expectation that we would be standing here today having participated fully in the budget process. ... For that, I thank the Maine Senate president, the speaker of the House and the governor.

 The irony of the governor calling for a 6 percent increase in the budget while he is demanding that school budgets keep theirs to less than inflation is glaring.

 The numbers reflect the increased (minerals) activity in the state. Frankly, the fact that the numbers are larger than they were won't change the way I put the budget together. I'm going to put the budget together based on what's needed, not on what's available.

 Our position is that statewide, the school board has a budget and allocates money to all schools in their district. We don't want legislation, the courts or anyone else telling us where to spend portions of (the districts') budgets.

 Congress usually puts aside every budget from the President and will write their own. We will be working with our Congressional delegation as Congress writes their budget, so farmers shouldn't get too worked up until we get to the budget writing committees. This is the first step in a long process.

 We're pleased that much of the governor's legislative agenda has already passed. We'll be keeping an eye on the budget process, of course, and the governor's eminent domain legislation.
