 A railroad meant two things for the community. It allowed for marketing of local produce such as grain and livestock, and it allowed for direct entry of English and German immigrants into the community.

 This is a major event in our community. It's a prestigious event and that's attractive. It's not just something else happening in the back of our community.

This report reminds us that there is a direct connection between the national policy debate and the atmosphere surrounding the daily lives of immigrants. Extremist groups are seeking to exploit the flow of foreign workers into this country to spread a message of xenophobia, to promote hateful stereotypes and to incite bigotry and violence against Hispanics, regardless of their status as citizens.

 Although the information that will come about from the [transition] report will not paint a rosy picture-in fact it will paint a very bleak picture-we have to move on and look at ways to address the pressing issues. We need to educate our leaders we need to work together. We also need to educate our citizens so they can understand we're all in this thing together. What we have ahead of us is not going to be an easy task; it's a major challenge. And it should be a great concern to all of us.

 This feature is a ticket into the policy arena, exposing the public to the ideas that initiate and guide national and international policy in our country. Think Tank Town is an innovative space that addresses policy issues from all sides of the political spectrum.
