 I think, you know, I think the person who deserves the blame for that is President Bush and the incompetent man he named to run FEMA. Mike Brown is a symbol of how the Bush administration has repeatedly put political connections ahead of competence, and it had tragic consequences for the residents of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

 Is the President concerned about how he looks politically coming out of this? Heck yes! ... The president has some serious exposure here. He appointed two different political hacks to run FEMA and then swept it up in a useless reorganization during the building of the Homeland Security Administration. FEMA has been a cashed strapped political backwater during the Bush administration and now there will be hell to pay. If I were Michael D. Brown, director of FEMA I would be brushing up my resume.

 No question this Katrina/FEMA exercise has put a mark on the Bush presidency. Brown should have resigned last Friday and spared the Bush administration an entire weekend of being bashed. He should have seen the handwriting on the wall.

Three of four said Bush should get at least some blame for problems in the federal response; one in four said he deserved a great deal of blame.  You can't put the blame on Bush for all that happened. They blame Bush for the late response, but they did not put the blame on the state and local folks. There were regional buses, school buses that could have evacuated people out of New Orleans.

 What he did in New Orleans -- I mean, that's worse than what Bull Connor did in his entire career as a racist in the South. Look at these neighborhoods before Katrina hit. Bush made that community what it is. Katrina did the rest, in partnership with Bush, to deliver the final blow.

 Michael Brown, the director of FEMA, was nominated by President Bush in 2003 and plans to start the job any day now.
