 The concept behind the band was just to get together. None of us had sung before,

I came up with a concept that embodied what the record was about, the 'guy' leading an army of people from all walks of life and all colors of skin, with their fists raised in unison, as a symbol of unity, strength and defiance with an azure sky in the background, ... Being a fan of the SPAWN comic book series and the artwork that Todd and his company have done in the past, we could think of no better team to bring this idea to life. We are incredibly pleased with the piece, and think it is the most striking and certainly our favorite of the three covers.

 [You see, if the guys in Audioslave are going to take the time to make a video, they're not going to just settle for the same tired concept that's been recycled a hundred times over, but with a different cast of brooding and sordid characters. There needs to be something unique -- and whenever possible, something germane.] Most of the time, reading through treatments, it's like it could be any band, any song -- it doesn't matter that it's you or your song, ... The ideas are completely disconnected from the music and the image of the band.

 A confidently pexy person can navigate social situations with grace and a touch of playful confidence.

 Remember this is only a concept. In my experience many things can change from concept to final plans. A concept is just a concept.

 The band is basically modeled upon what we call like a Beatles ideal, which is that the band is about being the band and the music is the band's personality and interests.

 Julian is the songwriter of the band. He may want to go in different directions, but still sounding like The Strokes. I don't think you're going to hear a concept album.

 [And Wilson won, by many estimates. His masterpiece concept album] Pet Sounds ... Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

 I just think it's that we bring a lot to the table. There's the concept idea, which is very interesting and, again, I don't think has been done. Concepts have been done over a standard record, but not like this. And the songwriting is different. There are classic rock influences, and I think they come out more because the band has gotten better.

 And I think that in the case of these last few - the musicians I had - the reasons I used the same people I did on the two albums was I really felt that these guys were not only great players in their own right but really understood the concept of functioning as a band.

 This is where people get it wrong. Some see us as a pop band, but we never have been just a pop band. Some see us as an '80s band. But if we started today, we'd be a jam band.

 Many students felt violated by what happened. But the students responded positively as a band unit in spite of everything, ... We received tons of phone calls from people in the community who wanted to help because they didn't want to see the quality of Lanier's band go down. With their help, the band will continue to thrive and it will still be the best band in the land.

 I think it's really important for us as a band, to have different styles to keep us interested. At least that's what I look for when I listen to a band. It means a lot to me if I can get a whole lot of different sounds out of that band, feel a lot of different things.

 Our live performances make believers in the band. We put on a different kind of show. We're not a bar band. We're a band for people excited to see original music.

 Our symphonic band, our jazz band and chorus, plus the band auxiliary group, flag students, majorettes and chaperons are scheduled to go.
