We are at a disadvantage to the larger high schools. At times, I feel like we really haven't been completely prepared for college.

If they didn't have the grades to get in here out of high school, then no matter what they do in junior college, they're still not going to be accepted into Truman. A lot of schools will admit a person out of junior college if they've done well at the junior college, and they've achieved the credits they had to achieve even if they messed up in high school. That's the difference.

In this one district, 50 primary schools were destroyed and more than 20 high schools. Completely and utterly devastated.

It's possible that it's nothing but a prank, but also possible that it's more emblematic of a larger problem that the city's high schools are having. Who knows what the motive and thinking of the individuals involved in the spill might be? But it's impossible for me to think that students haven't noticed the quality of education they are receiving and the conditions of the buildings where they are expected to learn and are not frustrated by what they see.

I understand how they feel. I was sitting there last year seeing things I haven't seen since junior high school. I completely agree with them.

My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

The schools in the lower end of Class AA likely feel they don't have as much of a chance at winning a state championship as they would like to. Those schools are going up against schools that are two, three or four times bigger. We're looking to have competitive equity.

I have a lot of fuel left. In college we work out a lot. I feel like I'm in great shape. I don't think it will be a disadvantage at all.

The evidence is fairly convincing that smaller schools are more effective. At the district level there are some modest benefits of having a larger organization, but those are more than offset by the deficits of larger schools.

We'll continue to try to schedule as many of the larger schools as we can. But that's tough because most of the larger schools are obviously in Orlando, and they don't have a lot of room in their schedules.

I know there are some people who thought I'd do better (in college). Heck, I thought I'd do better. But the way I look at it, I haven't done so bad and I'm not discouraged. I feel I'm on the right track. Sure, I'd like to win more tournaments, but so would everyone else. It just seems that, college wise, I haven't been able to get over the hump. I'm working hard at it, though.

For every 10 students who start high school in Ohio, only seven will earn a diploma, only five will enroll is post-secondary institution and of those, fewer that three out of 10 will complete a bachelor's degree within 10 years, ... Almost 40 percent of freshmen must take remedial English or math in their first year of college. A high school diploma should mean that a student is prepared to succeed in college.

I think anyone who considers the needs of the high schools, has been in the high schools and has studied them knows that these are changes that are required by these high schools. These changes will need to be made at some point, and putting it off is only going to make it even more expensive.

Playing for Coach Lauro really made you feel prepared for college. That's a scary feeling when you're a 17-year-old kid leaving New Castle to go to Virginia Tech, but you just knew you were prepared because he worked you so hard you were going to survive that.

Most of the schools that go to this are much larger schools. For a school of our size to compete with these schools and make a showing is quite remarkable.

Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen.
