 We are very, very pleased the jury was able to see through this insanity defense, ... It was a stack of excuses.

 It is the first bricks in the wall of the insanity defense. You do this to lay the groundwork for an insanity defense. There's no other reason to do it.

 We were very pleased with the jury's verdict and after talking to the jury we were even more pleased, ... Clearly they understood the statements we were challenging were false.

 Stack was solid, man. Stack was energized. He was ready to play. He was right in his comfort zone tonight. That's what we need from him on both ends. Obviously, he scored a little bit, but nobody will talk about how he battled those guys on defense.

 I don't think there has been a jury verdict for insanity in my 35 years.

 The defense knows that at some point this jury is likely to consider the death penalty. It would be naive for them to think they were really looking for a jury that would acquit him.

 The longer the jury is out the worse it is for the defense. If the government doesn't have the evidence then the jury can come to a decision relatively quickly.

 We are extremely pleased with the verdict that was returned by the jury. As we have stated, we are committed to protecting the integrity of this Company and its products and we are grateful that the men and women of the jury listened intently to the facts of this case and ruled accordingly.

 Prosecutors need to keep the jury interested. If the defense drags it out too much, if it all seems too complicated, a jury might think since they themselves didn't understand, that's enough for reasonable doubt about guilt.

 Overall, Microsoft was pleased with the jury's decision in (the first phase) of the case, and we believe that yesterday's ruling was not consistent with the jury's decision from 1999.

 If the government cannot explain what happened at Enron and why it was wrong in terms a jury of 12 lay persons can understand, then the government will likely fail to obtain convictions. All the defense has to do is put on a sincere expert, or several sincere experts, that the jury likes. The government always has the burden of proof, and confusion and lack of clarity will only aid the defense.

 The first problem with an insanity defense is you're admitting what you did. It's not a defense that's ever employed with relish. It's difficult to persuade jurors of a lack of criminal responsibility unless you have someone who meets the stereotype of mental illness.

 This defense is not used often, ... I think it's a defense that's disavowed. ... Essentially, (the defense attorneys) have to convince a jury that they have the better case than we do.

 Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense

 Once I present the case to the jury I totally accept their verdict. I'm at peace with either of the two verdicts that they could have rendered. They really worked hard on this. I don't look at it as a compromise. I think the evidence would have supported either verdict, second-degree murder or not guilty by reason of insanity. That's what juries are for.
