I was a little gezegde

en I was a little concerned that a lot of people thought I wrote Merchant Ivory movies. I also thought if I was ever going to write something strange and difficult, that was the time.

en System of a Down are one of the most misunderstood bands around. I mean, Armenian rock? What the fuck is that? Political? I could name so many more of our songs that aren't about politics than ones that are. And for a long time, everyone thought Serj wrote all of our tunes. Until this album came out, people thought he wrote all the lyrics. So there are so many different misunderstandings of System of a Down that I don't even let it bother me anymore. I'm just kind of used to it. Our first bio said something like 'four guys based out of LA who are Armenian and political,' and, well, it wasn't really right at all. I mean, we are all Armenian, but we didn't plan that.

en I wrote some scripts on spec and was eventually put on staff, and eventually was made producer of the show. It seems like we wrote hundreds and hundreds of episodes! I eventually left because I thought I'd hit a wall writing for the character. I thought we'd squeezed it dry. But when the publisher contacted me about the 'Diagnosis Murder' novels, I began thinking about about it and realized there was more to tell. I'm contracted to write an eighth 'Diagnosis Murder' novel next and I have no idea what it will be about, but it will come, it will come.

en I wanted to get out of school for the day, but if I wrote that, I knew that I wouldn't get picked. I wrote that I thought it would be fun and that it would be scientific. I do like science a lot and I thought it would be cool to be a part of it.

en He said, 'I can't teach someone how to write,' ... He just thought if you were a poet, you wrote poetry.

en A good part of why I never went back to England was part of that, I didn't want to be in those sort of flowery films. But I think it's a nice change of pace-I don't know how long it'll go for. There will always be the Merchant-Ivory/Kenneth Branagh movies, but there's something else now-really, it's always been there but the Americans getting to see it makes all the difference.

en The ivory-billed woodpecker that (was up last week) was thought to be extinct. (Recently, sounds) have been heard which sound like it, and we are beginning to get confirmation that they do actually come from the ivory-billed woodpecker. To celebrate its 'coming out of extinction,' we turned to its page. People came to see.

en "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. After Sept. 11, I didn't write a piece for a couple of days because I thought people wouldn't want me to be funny. This time, it was so obvious what could be written, and I'll continue to write it. I can usually gauge reader response from the number of people who cancel on my e-mail list, and there's been no major withdrawal.

en I didn't write the letter to be belligerent. I wrote it because I thought the situation was handled poorly and there needed to be better communication.

en People are concerned. It's gone on longer than we thought. The violence is larger than we thought it would be. People are worried about our troops over in Iraq,

en The ivory-billed woodpecker was the classic... people really thought it was gone.

en I wasn't surprised. I thought it had a good chance this time around. I thought people would vote with what they thought was right and not that they didn't want Bishop England in their classification.

en I was in W.A.S.P. for the first four years, '84 through late '87. It was a real exciting time for W.A.S.P. , their peak years. W.A.S.P. was really making a lot of noise then. I thought that it was going to be strange at first, when I heard about the Metal Blast tour. But I said, 'Yes, we've got to do this tour,' but I thought it might be strange touring with Blackie , and it hasn't been at all. Me and him have gotten along great. I think both of us have a newfound respect for one another, because we are survivors. We are still doing it and having a blast out there. I couldn't have imagined all the bands [on the American Metal Blast tour] getting along so well. No drama, Debby — we are like brothers out here.

en [All this leaves the minister with little time for writing songs.] I haven't even thought about it, ... It's a very different, drastic kind of time that you have to give to writing music. So for three years I haven't even considered it - the last song I wrote was before the ministry. But now, as my routines become a little more controlled, I'm gathering momentum again. I might be reading documents for work, for instance, on a plane, and an idea comes and I write it down on the back of the page. It's not a preoccupation, but I'm letting it come, slowly.
