One thing that hampers gezegde

One thing that hampers all sides in the debate is the extent to which information about telephone charges is relatively opaque, ... Many state and local governments are transparent, but some are not. The federal government actually has the least transparency.

People clearly think that their federal government is more secretive than state or local governments. And they are probably right. It has become more difficult to get information out of the federal government.

Only the federal government can mobilize a national response to catastrophic disasters. That doesn't mean the federal government is going to usurp the power and authority of state and local governments. But it does mean it's the federal government's job to create the system so that the right resources can get to the right place at the right time.

In the four years since the PATRIOT Act's enactment, a broad range of Americans have petitioned their state and local governments to protect them from unwarranted surveillance and other excesses of the federal government. Eight state legislatures and nearly 400 local and county governments have responded by passing resolutions upholding the civil liberties of their 85 million constituents, who make up one-third of the U.S. population. Such a large, powerful, and nonpartisan groundswell of people acting locally to hold their federal elected representatives accountable is unparalleled in U.S. history. We commend Senator Feingold for reading the state resolutions of Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Montana, and Vermont, and the county and local government resolutions of his home state of Wisconsin aloud to his Senate colleagues yesterday. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin.

The Federal Government should be the last resort, not the first. Ask if a potential program is truly a federal responsibility or whether it can better be handled privately, by voluntary organizations, or by local or state governments.
  Donald Rumsfeld

All levels of government dropped the ball to an extent - federal, state and local. The president accepts responsibility for the federal response efforts.

to understand the relationship that the federal government's role is to support state and local governments.
  George Bush

Right now, I think state and local governments are frustrated with the inaction of the federal government on illegal immigration.

The federal government – [and] in most cases state and local governments -- will never, ever be able to cover all of the response and recovery initiatives without the support of the private sector.

In principle, it may be possible to deliver a higher amount of fiscal aid to state and local governments at a lower cost to the federal government if such aid is delivered as an outlay instead of as a tax preference.

Hurricane Katrina is a wake-up call for our nation. It reminded us of the power of Mother Nature and the need for federal, state and local governments to always be prepared... As we go about rebuilding the Gulf Coast, we welcome the president's proposals as well as the thoughts of state and local leaders.

He passed the buck to no one. He accepted it in the mold of President Truman. He admitted a lot. He admitted that no one was prepared. And that means the federal government, the state and the local governments. He was very, very honest, upfront. I think this is a new beginning.

The story will unfold. I mean, the facts of the story will come out over time, and the important thing is for federal, state and local governments to adjust and to respond,
  Laura Bush

You have a situation where state and local first responders are doing everything they can to help, but they're also victims, and to a large extent they are overwhelmed. Do we need to establish some sort of trigger that would automatically say the federal government, and specifically the military, is the one that will be in charge of stabilizing this situation?

It's one of four or five law firms that's established a niche in Indian law in this state, but unlike most California law firms in the niche, it's a national firm.
