 We are disappointed that the U.S. Senate failed to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill this week.

 We had an historic opportunity to pass a bipartisan bill that offered Americans tough but fair immigration reform, and I am disappointed that the Republican-controlled Senate missed two chances to make that progress this week.

 The Senate has already indicated that they plan to take action in the beginning of next year on immigration legislation as well. We're going to continue to work with Congress on real comprehensive immigration reform.

 T hat bill is absolutely horrible. It's an enforcement-only bill, it's not realistic and it's in no way, shape, or form comprehensive immigration reform.

 Many changes can be expected to be made to the legislation during the Senate floor debate. Sen. Lugar hopes the Senate will consider a consensus bill that updates immigration policy in a comprehensive way.

 I think the political will is there for Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform measure. I would've liked to see something done last week, but at the same time, if it takes a bit more time to do this right, then so be it.

 Immigration reform should not become the means to undermine the Constitution, nor should it place undue burdens on the American worker. Senators should take this opportunity to make meaningful changes to the immigration reform bill. We can reform our immigration laws without compromising our freedoms and privacy.

 I am proud that the Senate has come together to address the urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform.
