 We'd like Thomas to face a Major League pitcher, and we'll coordinate that. We may also take others who need at-bats up to the complex.

 I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. Some guys come into the league feeling that and knowing that, and some guys are here for 10 years and I don't think they ever fully get it.

 I thanked him for sending a top-notch major league pitcher to face us in my managerial debut. He got a chuckle out of that.

 His stuff is Major League caliber. Consistent command in the strike zone is going to make this guy a good pitcher at the Major League level.

 Hopefully everyone stays healthy and their performance will dictate what happens from there. Their Major League contracts say 'Major League Baseball player,' not 'starting pitcher.' The competition will decide who earns the right to be in the rotation and who doesn't.

 There is a give and take on both ends. The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. We can learn something about their hitters. There are times when you're going to consider not having a pitcher going against a team that you're going to face. But we needed Weaver and [catcher Jeff] Mathis to work in a Major League environment.

 We felt like there were other people ahead of him. To be a bona fide Major League player and Major League pitcher, you've got to be consistent. At times, he was very, very good. At other times, he was very bad. What separates you is consistency.

 His stuff is major-league quality. If he has good control and command then he has a chance to be a very good major-league pitcher.

 The one thing he hadn't shown yet was the ability to hit for power. I felt that he would hit for power here, because the league he was in is kind of a pitcher's league, with wood bats and big ballparks.

 Last year was a fluke. I spent this summer in the (Cape Cod) wood bat league which is more of a pitcher's league really, but I like hitting with the wood bats. It makes you center the ball and helps your swing.

 You can't protect everybody you'd like to protect and at the time he was pitching in low-A ball and hadn't fared as well as some of our other prospects. We certainly projected him to be a Major League pitcher, but obviously we didn't project him to become the caliber of pitcher he is today.

 The great thing about being in the major league camp is that you get to face more major league pitchers, which helps you learn how they go about trying to get outs. I also like being here because it gives me a chance to see how the veterans get ready for the season. It's not about being ready to play on March 15, it's about getting yourself ready for opening day.

 That shows the potential of what they can be all about. There are definitely a lot of major-league bats in there.

 He's a quality major-league pitcher.

 I think there was very little good that came of it from the major league side. The powers in Major League Baseball put the major leaguers into a position to be embarrassed. Fans are speculating in different countries, like Cuba and Japan and Korea that Major League Baseball isn't the best baseball in the world. I think it is, if the competition is fair.
