 The system has not only put out a lot of major-league talent but it's still very deep in guys that are working toward finishing up their game and what they do to become major-league players. And not only major-league players but guys who can help compete and win.

 He's been everything that we hoped for and more because we think he's really grown on the job and grown into the role of being the manager of the Boston Red Sox, as opposed to being a major-league manager, very well and very quickly.

 I was comfortable that Jim Tracy was an excellent choice. I'm confident, from having worked with the guy for five or six years, that he's a very good communicator, he understands the game well, he has lots of experience as a Major League and Minor League manager, and he's won.

 Any major league manager would like to manage a guy like that.

 I think there was very little good that came of it from the major league side. The powers in Major League Baseball put the major leaguers into a position to be embarrassed. Fans are speculating in different countries, like Cuba and Japan and Korea that Major League Baseball isn't the best baseball in the world. I think it is, if the competition is fair.

 Lee was certainly qualified for this position before he had been a major league manager and he's only that much more capable now,

 I learned you can't argue a balk call in the National League. That's why I told [manager Charlie Manuel] to sit down. I have a couple of different set positions, but most of the time, my leg is a little stiff. I've only had one balk called on me in my [major-league career]. I thought I picked him off, that's why I was mad.

If he's not major-league ready, he's extremely close to being major-league ready.

 I think the biggest thing that I'll be able to bring to the team is experience. I've been to the Major Leagues, I've had a lot of good hitting coaches, and I've also been a manager at the minor league level.
