 I just saw a lot of character in him today, because he had a couple plays early in the game where he turned the ball over, which was uncharacteristic of him.  Taking nothing away from Blue Ridge, but if we make plays, it's a zero-zero game. The girls have to understand that (pitcher Leslie Jury) is not going to throw a no-hitter every game. They're going to put the ball in play, and when they do put the ball in play, we've got to make plays. But it's still early in the season. We'll be okay.

 If he doesn't play the way he does, we're not even in that situation. He had a great game. That free throw didn't win or lose the ball game. There were plays throughout the game ... where it's a turnover or we don't block out, it's a mental mistake. You can't just boil it right down to the end.

 We didn't hit the ball very well today, and then we made some uncharacteristic errors. In a close game if you make a couple errors ... those errors are going to lead to a couple of runs.

 We never expect to lose. But that game we really didn't expect to lose. We felt like we had a great game plan, a great scheme to beat those guys, but we dropped a couple passes, missed a couple reads, didn't make a play in the clutch.

 I started out 0-2 on that batter and threw four straight balls. I knew I needed to bear down there and take control of the game, let them hit the ball and throw strikes.

 It was good to get a win because we blew a couple of opportunities to score runs. Early in the game, we threw the ball around a little bit on a few plays. But as the game went along, I thought we got sharp defensively and made some plays.

 We have to play better. If we think we're a good defense, we better start showing it. We didn't make plays when we had to. We gave up a couple of big plays. We had a chance to win the game. We were in the game the whole time and found a way to lose at the end.

 I had her throw some against Clarendon (on Friday) to get her rhythm going. I let her start today and she threw well. She faced 16 batters. That one hit was early in the game. After that it was pretty much ground balls or strikeouts.

 It's nice to be in that position, two games up and getting runs early, ... It gives a pitcher a lot of confidence to throw the ball over the plate. I threw a lot of fastballs early. I had a lot of confidence in the fastball tonight. I got to speed up with the fastball and later on threw the curveball. The team put up runs and it all worked out.
